stripped cross threaded intercooler bov bolt holes

Hello all.

So I took off my bov today to realise one bolt was endlessly turning. No idea who would've last took it off but I know I never stripped it.. I've become a tightening pansy since my ally wheel nut snapped..

Anyway, I managed, through a lot of swearing, to get the bolt back in and tightened up again. It's chewed itself a new thread so I know that when I take it out, its knackered.

Just wondering if anyone on here has had this and what they did to resolve it?
I wondered are the holes inserts into the intercooler or part of the intercooler cast?

I was going to maybe do a helicoil on it but I'm not sure how reusable they are.

Or I was just going to rethread a bigger hole and put a bigger bolt in..making the hole larger on the bov itself could be a problem though if I go back to standard...

Read on a yank forum that the holes are deeper than the screw by quite a bit, so put in a longer bolt..

Anyone else done this or had the same?

Thanks all.

Re: stripped cross threaded intercooler bov bolt holes

easy enough to pop a insert nut into fella, drill and tap a larger size and screw a insert in to keep the OE bolt.
Insertsdirect.com - 'Screwfit' Threaded Inserts (Screw-In)
you could helicoil as that part of the IC is pretty chunky,
swap the bolts for Cap or Button head bolts, you cant tighten them too much then before they slip.
