intermittent knocking noise after timing belt replacement

Hey All,

I am not a technically minded person but will try and describe all that happened. Timing Belt was replaced at 125,000km as per logbook, and driven it a couple of thousand km since then. Every now and again I was getting a burning rubber smell which I took back to the mechanic and they looked at it and tightened a visible pulley - not on the timing belt, just a normal belt.
Burning smell seems to have stopped, however today, whilst driving, I started hearing a knocking / hammering sound which seem to go in time with the revs. I pulled over but as I pulled over the noise stopped, so I continued to drive home with no issues. Doesn't seem to be any visible problems nor has the noise happened again.

Could this be to do with the timing belt? Has it broken? - I don't think it would have broken as everything seems to be OK still.
Performance has been a little worse since it came back. Could all this be to do with the timing belt? I will take it to the mechanic after the weekend.
