Version 4 Sti Impreza Engine Swap

Hi all,

I'm posting this for a friend and I'm hoping you will be able to help.

He has a Version 4 sti with a blown bottom end (no surprise there) and is looking at replacing the entire engine. He's thinking of doing a straight swap from another sti which would be fine. The alternative he's looking at would be to swap it for a 2.5 twin-turbo Legacy engine.

Do any of you good people know if this is possible without any major modifications? If modifications would be required could you give me a rough outline of what would be involved? Any help you could give would be great.

Many thanks,

Impressa.

Re: Version 4 Sti Impreza Engine Swap

legy engine is gonna be a right pain in the arse to do.

as far as a straight swap depends on what engine the donor is.

Re: Version 4 Sti Impreza Engine Swap

Thanks Tidgy,

Not too sure what the donor Impreza would be but I'm sure he'll source one that works. He's looking at the Legacy engine because apparently it's a lot tougher.

Thanks again,

Impressa.

sorry to sound so well it could be this or this but afirad thats what subaru's are, they have used 2L open deck blocks, 2L closed deck blocks, 2.5L semi open deck blocks in the impreza alone.

Re: Version 4 Sti Impreza Engine Swap

Yeah, I've done a bit of looking around and it seems to be tough to get any definite answers without specific information. I don't have much more about my mate's car until I speak to him again. I'll get that information and hopefully that'll make the search a little more fruitful.

Thanks again for your help,

Impressa.
