55 Plate WRX 230BHP

hi guys,
im new here.
im thinking of getting a 230BHP WRX but know nothing about scoobs.
i know it not the best scoob out there, but i thought it would be a good starting point to performance uprgrade it.
i would like a car with about 300 - 350 BHP,
how much work would it require to get to 300bhp?

cheers

Best advice there mate, if you want that power then buying a WRX will only keep you happy for a few weeks. Then you'll get the itch and start spending. Go for the best you can afford, don't be scared of buying an older model, many people will swear they are better !!

Re: 55 Plate WRX 230BHP

but insurance and the price of the car goes up when its an sti. the price goes up a fair bit as well.
im not looking for an old car, iv been there and i want something modern with no bodywork issues, just something i can modify instead of fixing.
there is not much difference between the wrx and the sti engines are there?
does it have a better turbo, injectors and intercooler or something?
cheers

Re: 55 Plate WRX 230BHP

Difference between wrx an sti are :-
Brembo brakes
Stronger 6 speed box an better back diff.
Side skirts
Front bumper spats
Better interior
Bigger bonnet scoop
Bigger intercooler
Bigger injectors
Bigger turbo
Decatted up pipe
Higher standard bhp
Forged pistons.
Different back box
Different wheels to clear the brakes
Bigger boots spoiler

That's just of the top of my head, and I'm speaking from experience as I have a modded wrx.
Trust me you will wish you had bought an sti I'm time. And as for the insurance - if your gonna mod the wrx so much it won't be any cheaper.

My point is that it will be cheaper in the long run and you will have a better car

Re: 55 Plate WRX 230BHP

so for the extra couple of grand that the sti will cost, i would not be able to get similar performance from the wrx for that money.
what exactly would be needed to get a wrx up to 300bhp?
cheers

Decat including uppipe to remove all three cats. Turbo (off an sti such as a vf35 or similar) sti pink injectors, sti intercooler, uprated fuel pump and a decent panel filter.

Re: 55 Plate WRX 230BHP

whats wrong with the turbo off the WRX.
what typre of power would i be looking at with a full exhaust system, open cone filter, new fuel pump, and remap?
is it possible to turn the boost up as well?
iv had a look at sti and i just cant afford a one, i dont want to go any older than a 2004/05 model, but they are still over 7k.
i dont mind spending money down the line to get the BHP i want out of the car, im just surpised as i had a 200sx before this and i got 300bhp out of that without doing any mods to the turbo or engine,
cheers

Re: 55 Plate WRX 230BHP

Td04 turbo isnt big enough. Remap will sort the boost. Should be able to get 270 or so with that. A panel filter is recommended over a cone. The same mods on an sti will get iro 330 - 340 on 99ron.

Forgot to mention uprated suspension earlier

Re: 55 Plate WRX 230BHP

thanks very much for all the info mate, its been very helpul.
only problem i have is that the sti are so much more expensive.
the car iv been looking at only has 50k miles on and is the shape i prefer and its in excellent condition.
i might just be happy with 270bhp as i guess its not a track car, but just a fast road car.
if in the future i get sick of the wrx, i guess ill just have to buy something new.
here is a link to the car that im hoping to get.
Used Subaru Impreza 4x4 2.5 Wrx 4dr | Custombilt

thanks

Re: 55 Plate WRX 230BHP

If you cant afford to buy and insure a Sti then thats out of the question,
What most people are really saying is a sti is pretty much the same place as a modded WRX gets too,
as mentioned if your getting insurance quotes for a standard wrx that will change as soon as you start modding, most find a standard sti cheaper to insure then a modded wrx and once you start modding you can limit the companies that will actually insure you,

a sti is stronger out the box so will take more enthusiastic driving without breaking,

A wrx is a good car but after a short time most people hanker for the sti as they look at what they have spent and it would have been better saving a month or 2 more to get a car that you will want to keep longer,
a wrx isnt a worse car but in the back of your mind you know there are better cars out there for only a few quid more,
also if your looking at 55 plate the sti is a step up yet again with its wider track and improved handling.
