160 miles per tank?? :( plz help me

Hi all,
I have had sh*** mpg ever since iv owned it (1998 turbo 2000) i no people say
That impreza owners shouldnt worry about mpg but surely something isnt right!
This is wht iv done:

Replaced fuel filter, air filter, spark plugs, oil filter with oil change,
O2 sensor (only had 1 precat, it was a universal one so hope i attached wires correctly) cleaned maf, idle control valve and PCV valve with brake cleaner ermmm injector cleaner, NO CEL for anything although i cleaned knock sensor.

Yet im still only getting v. Low mpg. Exhaust fumes smell very stronly of petrol.
All stock apart from back box and blitz dump vavle. No remap

If its relavent or not sometimes when i coast to junction with clutch in revs drop RIGHT down and it either stalls or picks back upagain. Same when i rev in neutral, very annoying. Any advice is very apriciated

normal running for an unmapped car,it's running rich as usual,ECU reset can help but ideal you'll need a map sorting..have you had it plugged in to a diagnostics unit yet??if not get it done, could be on of the sensors down down aswell...pointless chucking money at it trying to work out whats wrong...plug it in and get it sorted,do it once and do it right

dropping revs can be related to MAF,02,ICV and coolant temp sensor...as i've said, plug it in and sort it ..

I wouldn't trust a universal o2 sensor

MAF is the usual favourite for stalling at junctions etc. Unplug it and see is the engine carries on running or cuts out. You make need to reset the CEL though. Also, what fuel you using. V-power gives me and extra 30 miles per tank! Well worth the extra and you get back the extra money in mpg.

I only get 180 miles to a tank using super unleaded so I think your mph is just the norm

Re: 160 miles per tank?? :( plz help me

Thanx for replys yesterday i thought id be clever an take out an injector just to be nosey and make sure rings was ok and it was... Untill i pit it back it ran rubbish so i checked and i split o ring putting it back. Went to get a new o ring from injecter
Place, slightly tighter fit but should work. Reset ecu and car now shakes slightly and alot of smoke out exhaust white/blue texture but is ok when driving just slow accel and tick over! What have i done
i think its fouled my o2 sensor aswell as i had a cel for it whilst trying to reset ecu

Go and get the right size o ring. No point in hoping the oversized ring will be ok and you will never know if it causing another problem. No sure about fouling the O2 sensor. If it wasnt running for too long it 'should' be ok. I assume the CEL is now off?
