power steering

hi,having a few problems with the power steering on my 1995 1.6 gl,the power steering pump has started making a screetching noise ,if you rev the engine and give it some lock the noise gets quite bad ,the more you rev it the louder it is,could it be bearings or something rattling about inside, some times when you give it lock it stops screetching suddenly then starts again, can i remove the top of the pump to see if everything is ok,plus will it be ok to drive the car like it is ,cheers

hi, i agree with the belt still, maybe as the weather has warmed its stopped the noise,
the plastic filter only does anything when your topping the fluid up, to catch anything dropping in.

As Bob says. The belt will still need tightening.

Re: power steering

how far can you rotate the belt?
if you twist it.

It needs tightening up then. Not sure of the exact tension, but the deflections should only be minimal. I think around 5mm. Bob will tell you the best way to check, but a quarter turn is way too much.
