something weird (stage 2)

to carry on my last post (somehting weird)

Wonder if someone has had sim prob,

my car lately (last week or so)

seems to have become lazy at starting , sometimes i am turning the key the engine just turns over but doesnt start, if i leave for 10 secs, the engine will start.

Also got in my car this morn, and on the way to work, the engine check light up twice for about 5 secs at time, thenm went out,
The car seems to be running fine,
But im worried that at somepoint the car my not start at all,

Does anyone think that something maybe on its way out? maybe the alterantor or something?
if the engine lcheck light went out, does this mean there is no prbs?
i checked the engine with the built in diag (connected the wires under the dash) but no fault found.

the last thing that was done to my car was an oil change at a good reputable garage,

maybe something wrong with the cam krank sensor thing?

PLEAASE HELP, ANY SUGGESTIONS WOULD BE GREAT!

The starting problem could be battery. Not sure whether that could cause the engine light problem. Other thing it may be bad earths ???

A few things if I may m8

First up - when you say you connected the ECU Connectors did you connect both the green ones together and the black ones ?? The only reason I say is you should only connect the black ones as these are the historic readout plugs. By connecting all of the plugs you are resetting the ECU. Generally if the check engine light comes on it means the ECU has discovered a fault etc.

It could still be your Crank Sensor - have you managed to check it ??

the Cam/crank sensor is at the front of the engine (below the top pulley) IIRC - its a brown colour. 10mm bolt to undo - remove and inspect. It should be a silver colour but they do get covered in carbon deposit and this can give problems.

If it is black then use WD40 to spray it clean - dry off and refit.

Still not checked that sensor,
it does look black,

i had an oil change few weeks ago, i read that this sensor is uasully disonnected when doing this? maybe it has goit dirty.

I only connected the black wires, no fault found.

I had similar prob with engine lights coming on with my astra i used to have, never found what biut was, aparantley somes cars do this sometimes cos they are wet etc?

Cant see a little rain causes the light to come on, as rain is nowhere near as powerful as a jet wash and never got a prob after a good shower!

as it is an intermitent prob, its really hard to find if ive fixed the fault.

I may try charge the battery, is it safe to charge it while still in the bonnet? as the ecu and alarm may reset?

just an update fellas,

i disconnected the knock sensor and cleaned, and refitted the maf sensor,

done an ecu reset, took car for spirited 10 min drive,

when i plug the balck plugs together, the engine light just pulses every .5 secs, so i take it everything sorted and that there is no fault?

Nelson:

Remeber my first post saying that a car hit my wing mirror really hard, would this have caused these faults maybe?
why would the ecu ick faults that dont exist?

Correct me if im wrong, but if the ecu detected a prob with the "knock senor" would this cause the eninge not to start every time i turned the key?

Hi mate - I wouldn't have thought that the Knock Sensor would stop the car from starting ?? The knock sensor is there for that very reason - it allows the ECU to detect detonation/pre-ignition and the ECU usees it to govern timing advance etc.

A buggered Knock sensor would probably give poor performance not bad starting problems. It sounds like the ECU is now faultless if you are getting a regular flash. Did you have a look at your crank sensor ?? If not can I suggest checking it anyway
