Hi all
Have a wrx 56 reg hawkeye has been remaped with new downpipe n decap pipe n walbro fuel pump and is running 273bhp, engine is standard and am looking to get it up to round 320bhp ish im gonna swap old stock turbo for a new one but have no idea which one to get or which is best or price etc...??? I no ill have to buy sti intercooler as well with this and then get remapped again do i need any thing else with this and with a bigger turbo n sti intercooler is it safe to run this sort of bhp with this wrx engine with out braking damaging anything, So any ideas on which turbo/intercoolers, prob wont go anymore than 320 - 340 bhp when this is done so doesnt have to be a massive turbo just to run this bhp safley, and also any websites where can buy from, Any advise would be great and appreciated Thanks Al |

Re: Help on Which Turbo for hawkeye wrx ???
Ali Burrows on scoobyireland is doing a deal on delivery mileage VF48 turbos. You will need sti intercooler, sti 550 pink injectors. A 3 port boost solenoid would help mapping too. Should safely run that power no prob

Re: Help on Which Turbo for hawkeye wrx ???
turbo could go a number of ways depending on budget.
sc36 is prob best bang for your buck if buying new, or try to pick up a second hand vf34 or 35. injectors and 3 port is alsoa good idea, also prob a front mount. how much are you looking to spend?

Re: Help on Which Turbo for hawkeye wrx ???
Yeh was looking at the vf34/35 turbos are these the better ones to go for? Also the TD05 16g turbo looks ok for up to 340bhp ish and not to expencive what u rekon is it any good for what i need ??, found few sites that do these to andyforester, scoobyworld etc...
Only got bout £1500 to spend and was told only need new turbo n sti intercooler n remap to get up to this bhp does this sound right, dont wanna damage engine or anything else, the turbo wanna really get new and was told the original injectors in the wrx 06 hawkeye would be ok up to around 340bhp n dont need changing not sure how right this is, also is the 3 port boost solenoid a must have if doing this sort of mod?? soz for all questions as u can see have no clue bout this and what is needed. ta for the help, Al |

Re: Help on Which Turbo for hawkeye wrx ???
The vf48 Is mentioned is fitted to the later sti. The cars they came out of are new cars getting built into rally cars so they are as good as new. Think he's selling them for £500 or so

Re: Help on Which Turbo for hawkeye wrx ???
1500 wil be pushing it tbh, turbo, injectors, intercooler and map are pretty much bare minimum for next level of tune. Tis will be way up towards the limit of the engine and i wouldn;t scrimp getting it right myself.

Re: Help on Which Turbo for hawkeye wrx ???
The limiting factor to how far you push the power envelope will be your gearbox. Some say 350 is the absolute limit, others have 5 speeds running close to 400.
With your budget of £1500, why not buy a previously enjoyed VF35 and STI intercooler. You should be able to get a used 35 with history for £300 / £350. A decent used STI intercooler (not essential for 320ish) around £250.( I'm not sure if you'll need the under scoop tray on the Hawk to ensure airflow makes the most of the STI intercoolers bigger surface area) Your fuel pump and injectors are more than upto 320 too. An open source remap from a reputable tuner will set you back around £350. Hawk has no cat in the up pipe, so you don't need to spend any money there. That's £850 so far. Budget £150 for fitting at the most takes you to £1000 spent Spend the remainder on brakes, if not already uprated. Decent discs, pads, DOT 5.1 braided hoses should see you akay at 320bhp. If you have sorted your brakes, rear ARB and solid droplinks, fast road geometry setup. If you've already sorted your suspension then spend the remainder on scratch cards........ Bob |
