Newby Needing Help

Hi all, i have just bought a t reg 99 impreza turbo 2000 saloon, i bought it knowing it needed an engine, i am slightly confused with the EJ20 engine coding as from what i am learning not all EJ20 engines are the same, it is not an STI, can anyone help me with what engine i need to find to make the change as easy as possible and any pitfalls i need to look out for.

The engine in the car will tick over but makes a terrible racket - i have been told the bottom end has had it

Thanks

Martin

Hi, the engine number is EJ205 NW1KD

Does it have to be an exact match?

Thanks
