im stumped!!

im back with another problem!, i bought my 93wrx the other month and ive had numerous problems which ive been able to sort out, when i bought it cam belt idlers were completely shot so everything on timing got replaced, it was that bad the belt had cut the middle cover in half!!, now im having a problem it sounds like a bearing is failing but only when my foots on the accelarator, alternator power steering pump aircon and tensioner are all fine, it sounds like its coming from the box area but accelerates fine no knocking and all oils are topped up, could the clutch release bearing be my problem it does make a different noise when i depress clutch, sort of a whirring then goes quiet. im hoping it is this, clutch was done 20k ago and im sort of hoping bearing wasnt replaced and its not the box on its way out!

Re: im stumped!!

are you sure its coming from the gearbox and not the engine? big ends change sound when the engine isn't under load

Re: im stumped!!

sounds like the release bearing mate. I wouldn't worry too much if it's not effecting performance. Could be worth changing the gear oil, think I used Castrol Syntrax 75w-90 in mine and it sorted a few issues.

Re: im stumped!!

Worth a try to start with, much easier than taking the box out again to swap the bearing.

haha!!, ive never touched the box on an impreza as luckily all mine have been fine is it easier to take box out rather than get to clutch by removing engine?

Both are pretty big jobs, think I'd rather drop the box unless I was doing any work on the engine. It's a good excuse to do further mods though
