SOMETHING WEIRD!

Hey Guys,

Came across a really weird problem.

Was parked onj a hill, facing down, facing oncoming traffic (was waiting for the mrs)

The engine was off and keys in the ignition, i was sitting reading my copy of scooby mag, when suddenlely "BANG"!

A car had smaked my wing mirror at about 80mph, in a 30.

It only scrathed the mirror thoguh, so wasnt to bad.

Tried to start my car 2 mins later, and it wouldnt start. the engine was turing but nothing would happen. I left it for 5 mins, then it started ok but ran rough for about 2mins on idel (as if it was going to cut out)

Anyone come across this before?
Im wondering if the mirror getting knocked would have caused the i im imobilier kicking in or something thinking the car was being broken into.

Or would this have happend if the mirror was knovked or not?

could it have been a fuel problem as i was parked on a hill?

I was on my way out shopping, but was afraid that the car would not start again in the middle of asda carpark, so i just went straight home.

Could have been a bit of fuel starvation or maybe the Cam Sensor needs a clean :)

I would personally just keep an eye on it - as others have had similar problems and when trying to start the car after its been left for a few minutes.

I wouldn't have thought it had anything to do with the Mirror being whacked

where abouts is the cam sensor located?

Nelson 31 Jul 2005 07:25 PM

The Cam Sensor is right at the front. If you look beneath your pulley on the block you will see a Brown coloured sensor. It has a 10mm bolt holding it in place - just unbolt it - remove the sensor and it should be a silver colour. If its black (as mine was) then you'll need to clean it off with WD40 before reconnecting :)

ok cool, think i saw it the other day, its just above a thing that looks like measurements of somekind above a pulley

while im around that area, when my engine is ticking over, all the pulleys etc on the front end of the engine squeak!
am i able to spray wd40 on them to help? or will this result in the belts slipping?

Nelson 31 Jul 2005 11:24 PM

Thats the one - next to the measurement markings :)

As for spraying belts - I personally wouldn't use WD40 on belts just incase they slip - however I am sure I am correct in saying that Halfords do an actual Belt spray lubricant that helps squeaky belts :)
