Hi Everyone,

I am a newbie to this site so dont laugh if i ask a dumb question.

Ok here goes..3 weeks ago i brought an impreza uk version turbo now just my luck it needs a new tyre on the front drivers side due to a fault with the tyre it bulges out. I have been told that even though the one needs replacing all of them now need to be replaced is that correct :?:

Many Thanks

hi welcome to the site.

Not the case.... You are perfectly entitled to drive with one new and three old however... Handling may be reduced as a a result.

Keep us informed.

If the tyres are worn (near to the legal limits) then you should at least replace in pairs across the axle. The reason is one new tyre on the same axle as a worn tyre can cause extra pressure/wear on the front or rear diff as the wheel circumference will be different from side to side.. (so I was told)

I'm not too sure about impreza's but when i used to work on volvos, any car with 4wd/viscous couplings we used to advise a maximum of 2 mm difference between tyres on different axles and replacing in pairs to avoid damage to the viscous.

As i say, not too sure if this applies to scoobs, but it may do!
