1993 WRX?

Hello! I am new to the forum. It seems very helpful so I thought I'd sign up!

I am looking at buying a Subaru! I have fallen in love with the WRX's.
I have been browsing used cars online and found a beautiful 1993 WRX, tuned up nicely, claiming to pull over 300hp.

Now, I am by no means a mechanic, I can find my way around most parts of the car; but I love learning more about mechanics. I have no experience with imported cars.
Is this car a fairly reliable car, engine-wise? The engine was swapped with a 1995, claims to have 10,000 km's on the motor.

I want to know if this car is going to give me a heap of troubles down the road if I buy it. I'd love to hear some common issues that can pop up, and if they are a pain to fix, and if they will cost an arm and a leg, with parts being from Japan and all.

Thanks so much!

Logan

Re: 1993 WRX?

Hi, welcome to the forum
Do you have a link to the car so we can look ?
I would ask who did the engine change, was it a recon, docs to evidence this, guarantees.....
Yes these cars can be very reliable when looked after and serviced on a regular basis, of course all cars have their individual problems but the Scooby is an amazing car, especially in the snow when the 4x4's are all over the place and the Scoob just burbles on through
Most people on here are happy to offer lots of help...just ask

Re: 1993 WRX?

always good to have documented history, proof that mods have been done by reputable people,
look after em and theyl look after you , most common thing ive seen on the early classics is the weeping rockergaskets
good luck with the search

If the car does what it claims, I'm thinking there will be plenty of power to go around, especially since these cars seem to be pretty lightweight.
