Is it possible to have two ecu maps on a 2005 wrx(or any other impreza )without having an aftermarket ecu just so i can get better mpg on long trips or just when im not flooring it and dont need 300+ bhp

Re: dual maps

Well - based on limited experience of a 2008/09 STi with the OEM dual mapping ("Intelligent" mode with limited torque and different accelerator response vs. "Sport/Sport#"), I can say it makes very little difference on consumption (say 1 mpg or so) over 200 miles of careful driving. I am sure better can be done, but I am sceptical it is going to overcome basic issues like drivetrain friction and turbo.

With careful driving I am getting close to my wife's A6 2.4 quattro (~25-28 mpg) - which would match the fact that basically the engine is nearly always not under boost and the two cars are comparable in terms of engine capacity, drag and weight (bit more drag on the Scooby, more weight on the Audi)
