Gearbox change

Hi guys,

Ok I have a 94 wrx import, syncro has gone between 4th and 5th. Now couple of things I wanted to ask, first was is there a chance that this car could of had a short shift gear box fitted or could the current one be a short shift box? I know its an impossible one to answer without having the number off of it, but thought I'd ask. Secondly I'm looking at getting a newer box, rb5 short shift box which has been offered to me at a reasonable price. What I wanted to ask was if I'm going to make this change would thie newer rb5 box fit my car easily or would I have to go out and buy different mounts etc etc ending up with a lengthy shopping list? I've heard that the diff's need to be similar or something along that route? Also is 300 a reasonable price for this type of gearbox? Regards Gareth

Re: Gearbox change

uk box into imports is a pretty popular conversion, but, you will need the rear dif aswell other wise your current dif will wind up and bugger the drive, all mounts are the same be it an import or uk,reason being the box is held up and in by a saddle at the rear fo the box..simple job tbh

Re: Gearbox change

The SPDA - Transmission Chart check the gearbox code here you'll find the code on the vin num plate on top of passenger side top mount by struct bar under the car bonnet check as Ed said you have to have the same ratio final drive in the gearbox as the same ratio as the rear diff some people dont think of this and bye bye diff after awhile

correct all will mount up perfectly..
just watch it when removing the box, there are 2 dowels at the back of the engine and can cause issues when trying to pull the box away,if your really clever(like me ) you can leave the exhaust in place and don't forget to disconnect the wiring loom on top of the box in the tunnel..
