Strong Fuel Smell

Just recently got my WRX dont have any history or the benefit of talking to the last owner as its from an auction.

Mods as i know are just a de cat pipe rest is cosmetics or handling ( coilovers strut's)

I keep noticing a strong smell of fuel but not 100% of the time, there is no patches on the floor of the driveway so cant be a serious leek.

i simply do not know where to start some comments friends have are , over fueling or a broke fuel return???

any advice will be much welcome

Re: Strong Fuel Smell

pop the bonnet and check the filter and fuel lines, pasengerside of the bay 3 pipes, one in,one out and one bypassing it,fuel pump, behind rear seat(boot),(drivers side, under a plate held in by 4 screws)..also check the collar to the feul tank from the filler, also there's a breather for the tank located in the same area..

Re: Strong Fuel Smell

Had the back seat up, think the problem is around here there is a strong smell of fuel and what looks like fuel stains around the nosels on drivers side of rear seats, not got any time to investigate further till next weekend maybe its fuel pump over fuling or leaking??

thanks all

Re: Strong Fuel Smell

Check the filler neck pipe from the cap to the tank, these can become rotten over time because of all the dirt that gets around them. There was another thread on here somewhere with some one else with a similar problem
