Want my first scooby - advice needed!
Hi guys,
after being an MR2 owner for the last four years I have decided to cross over to the dark side and get myself an impreza! I do not know a great deal about the cars to be honest, from what I understand the 2 litre turbos are around 260bhp standard? There seem to be a lot around boasting 300bhp, are these all modded or was this standard? This is the car I am looking at, what do people think of this one? Is it a fair price? Also as it is a 93 is it worth holding out for a later year? Subaru : Impreza WRX 300bhp Any help appreciated guys I am clueless about these cars and want to make sure I go for the right one! Andy |

Welcome to the site. This checklist should help when buying or viewing - Subaru Impreza - Buying Checklist You defo want a full service history or proof of regular servicing and I went for a standard car that way I knew all the mods I would do would be done properly. Lots of Impreza's out there with bad mods if you insist on one thats already modded check for receipts, dyno print outs to prove bhp etc. Worth doing a HPI check also not many out there that some chav hasn't put in a ditch. Get an insurance quote, UK models are cheaper to insure than imports. I'm sure other members will add to this, there's a lot to think about mate and good luck

Hi welcome to the site, as above the buying guide is a real big help.
It took us over two years to find the right scooby and we finally hit a diamond an old man own her and only did 27k miles and was totally standard and was amazing. take your time and look at every detail, they are an amazing car but also people like to tinker with them alot. my thoughts take your time and dont jump into to it! |

Hi and welcome to the site

JDM Import WRX: 1992 - Sept 94 = 236bhp (240ps) Oct 94 - Aug 96 = 256bhp (260ps) Sept 96 - 00 = 276bhp (280ps) JDM Import STi: 1994 - Jul 95 (version 1) = 246bhp (250ps) Aug 95 - Aug 96 (version 2) = 271bhp (275ps) Sept 96 - 00 (versions 3 - 6) = 276bhp (280ps) UK - Impreza Turbo AWD 1994 - 99 = 208bhp (211ps) 1999 - 00 = 215bhp (218ps) Looking at the ad in the link you posted, one of the things that stood out was the lack of info about remapping. The 1992 - Aug 96 imports can not be remapped unless a daughter board (such as ESL) is added to the ECU or the whole ECU is replaced with an aftermarket one. As someone else mentioned if going for a modded car get dyno print outs and info on how and who mapped the car. |
