I'm unsure

Hello all,

I've drawn up a shortlist for my next car,

1. Impreza WRX 2008 - 2009 plate
2. Audi A3 3.2 DSG
3. Golf R32 DSG
4. Mazda 3 or 6 MPS

They're not in any particualr order, i just cant decide which i should get? what i'm asking you guys if you dont mind is what it is that makes the scoob so much more desireable considering out of all five its got the least horsepower, on paper anyway. What makes it faster? because it certainly appears to be.

I'm happy with my remapped Golf V5 but its got nearly 120k on the clock now so time for a change methinks. The only downside to the scoob at the moment is the insurance and the attention you get from the criminal fraternity. I'm 36 and been driving for 10 years, advanced driver and i'm still getting quotes around the 900 to 1000 mark, shouldn't it be lower? fair enough i live in Manchester, but still.

Re: I'm unsure

In all honesty mate, of the cars you list it would be the Mazda 3 first and second choice would be the R32. I don't think the hatch WRX represents good value compared to the others and by all accounts is quite a 'soft' car.

As for insurance, I've got 3 years no claims (with a foreign insurer), am 34 and have been driving 17 years and I'm getting quotes of 6-700 so would assume you are being hammered for the area you live in.

Re: I'm unsure

Of that list I would have to put the Golf in first place. I haven't driven the new Scooby yet so couldn't offer any comparission.
If I could chose I'd look for a mint RB320, now that wuld make me smile !!

An rb320 would be my first choose - would touch anything not from japan. What about a civic fd2?

Re: I'm unsure

Thanks for the replies. I do like the Golf (since i have one now) but the insurance was quite crippling, saying that it is for them all, you might be right rikimaru, its possibly my postcode thats doing damage.

Originally there was no list and the R32 was going to be it, just fancied the scoob as an alternative. The thing is that one day i'll be sat at the lights and an scooby will leave me for dead, even with 20hp more.....i can see it coming.

By the way what do you mean by RB320? all i know is R32 with DSG, although i've heard bad things about that gearbox too.

The Civic would be nice but they're the worse of the lot on fuel consumption i believe?

Re: I'm unsure

in my eyes the flat 4 sounds makes the impreza a winner, nothing like it, but then there are other aspects to look at and the golf is a top qaulity motor build wise

Fd2 civic is jap spec an not available over here. There good on fuel if the Vtec but I would say it would be hard to keep it off Vtec. Check litchfeild imports out for one.

Re: I'm unsure

Don't write off the Mazda. They are very quick little cars and I was very surprised by a couple when I was in Japan.

Re: I'm unsure

Can I throw in a VXR vauxhall ?
I dont think a R32 Golf will be what you want at all, drive 1 they are a bit heavy and dont go well unless you spend a bit on them,
The mazda is a great car out the box but wont offer any future upgrades,
I love audis so hmm,
But I wouldnt rule out the wrx it will give you the biggest thrill if pushed on B roads/twisties but it depends where you spend your life on the road,
On a motorway and I think the wrx is lost as its got to be driven to be loved, but the others are/will be softer so probably better suited to the long motorway runs.

Re: I'm unsure

I'd park my RB320 next to my 22B, which would be next to my P1 and Lichfield. Oh and don't forget the H2 Hummer.

Re: I'm unsure

Speaking of oldskool, shed of the week on pistonheads is a beautiful VW scirocco in white, with white wheels, lights, seat etc. Amazing car, many years ago I had a mk1 in gold.......
