Newbee saying hi, and asking first question!!!!

Hi everyone. I am looking at finally taking the plunge and getting my first scooby. I have been waiting way to long and should of had one years ago as I am getting on a bit (34). I am just trying to collate all the info now so I am in the best position to buy, and know all the costs and what to look out for. I am looking at a 2004-05 WRX, maybe with the PPP. Don't think I could stretch to the STI as much as I would like too!!! One of things I am struggling to find out (maybe me being a dummy) is how much the tax is?
You cannot go though life never experiencing an impreza!!!!
Thanks

Re: Newbee saying hi, and asking first question!!!!

tax depends on yeah, 06 and after 415 before 215.

as far as what you for depends on what you want from it.

whats your budget?
is it your main day to day car or just a weekend toy?
do you want it to be the fastest thing you can get (assuming decent condition)
its def worth checking your insurance costs?
have you owned a modified car before? or are you plannign to mod this one

Re: Newbee saying hi, and asking first question!!!!

Cheers for the reply. It is going to be my day to day, so I would like a low mileage car. I want to keep it standard to be honest (unless one comes with the prodrive performance pack). I have read on here that this can knock the insurance up a fair amount. I am not 100% sure of my budget at the moment, just sorting out a new mortgage and a few other things, but will know soon. My next move is to check some insurance quotes!!!
Thanks for your help.

Hi and welcome, bet you can't wait to get a scooby

Yes tax as above, can't remeber exactly how much i paid but it was around 220 mark for a years, i normally do six months at a time but as my little ones birthday falls on same day need money for birthday prezzies.

I think you will be able to modify body no problem with STi and WRX parts as long as you make sure parts are within the same year range for that model i don't see why not

And yes the PPP does bump the insurance right up

Welcome to .org mate, glad you've decided to join the fold. Sounds like you're doing the best thing and researching everything first. BEst of luck with your choice, be it a WRX, STI, RA or PPP.

Ok here is what you need to know before i can answer you, if you want big power and you'll be modifiying the engine then an sti is better as they have all the things you need for big power ie 6 speed box and variable valve timing heads etc............................................... .................

A standard wrx is around 225bhp and with decat exhaust, 255lph fuel pump and a 3 port boost solenoid can be remapped to around 270bhp - 280bhp and is till way cheaper than a sti, it cost me 350 for remap,62 boost solenoid 45 for hrc fuel pump and 189 for decat and rear pipe which totals 646 to get it to 270bhp - 280 bhp............................................... ...........

iirc the ppp kit does roughly the same power figures as what ive done above, but i fitted all my own parts so had no labour, if your happy with 280bhp then wrx or ppp wrx is all good ( the reason i put this is because a clean good condition wrx is better than a not so clean PPP WRX in regard to its only around 650 to get the same power and you also have a new fuel pump new boost solenoid and a recent map so you know its running as it should etc).............................................. .......

If you want above 330bhp then its more expensive to buy the sti first off but cheaper in the long run as you have to buy more parts for the bigger power and the wrx gearbox has successfully done more than 350bhp but many people say its the limit they are reliable and i personally agree. the 6 speed sti box is stronger and is on my shopping list for my 2001 bug eye but at 1500 second hand is not cheap............................................. ...................
Any more questions just ask lol

Re: Newbee saying hi, and asking first question!!!!

also just to add a remap on a wrx with everything left standard will still reap benefits of better fuel economy which on mine has been an noticable increase and also better torque through the range. standard wrx's are severly restricted from factory in my opinion. not so much on bhp but on boost and torque. A WRX PPP would be fine as it is for you from what you've said about keeping standard and isnt sluggish like a wrx is.
