knocking noise

Hi guys,

I've just fitted a whiteline rear anti roll bar 24mm to my car, set on medium setting.
Since fitted I'm getting a popping / knocking noise from the rear of the car. Mostly when driving over uneven roads.

Any ideas why this would be ?

It shoudln't be a noise from the struts because I had coilovers fitted about a month ago and no noise from them at all since. All just started since fitting the rear ARB, but noise seems to be getting worse

Re: knocking noise

Would look for play in rubber mounting bushes and drop links.

Re: knocking noise

the drop links on the newage sti should not be the shitty plastic ones as fitted to the classic.

Just check everything is tight as you should check them after a few miles.

Re: knocking noise

yep - i have bc's.
But like i said, the coilovers have been on for a good few weeks now and absolutely no noise from them. but as soon as the rear bar was fitted, the noise appears.

i suppose could just be a coincidence and the problem is with the coilovers?

Re: knocking noise

my thinking was stiffening up the rear end has caused them to get nocky. might not be though so worth checking everything else first

Re: knocking noise

Well, it turns out it was something unexpected.

The whiteline anti roll bar is hitting on the floor of the car! Right where the recess for the spare wheel sits. There are visible wear marks where it has been hitting.

Design fault with the bar, but I can't understand how this could not have been noticed by whiteline before now. Surely other people must have fitted these bars to an 06 sti ?

Re: knocking noise

Part number on the bar is bsr37xz which seems to be the correct one from the info I can find
