Exclamation SUbaru consuming too much fuel??

Hi all, Iam new here, I got a subaru impreza 2000 IS 1.5l
this is my problem:
WITH a full full tank of fuel I was able to do around 420 km to 450km, since two months ( when the winter started here) with a full tank of fuel Im able to do just 350km
so I started to do some services to the car, I did:
-Replace oil Filter.
-Spark Plugs
-Air Filter.
-Check the tyre pressure.
-Replace O2 sensor (I used a genuine one from Subaru)

I was specting to get a better fuel performace, but so far with half tank of petrol I just did only 170km
Driving the car feels great, no change at all, the only issue is the fuel consumption.

the car is allways used to drive short distance in the city, if I drive in the highway I can do around 550km.

Any Advice about any common problem will be highly aprecciate.
by the way, How many km can I do with a full tank of fuel in this type of car?

thanks again
Marcos

Re: SUbaru consuming too much fuel??

It could be due to the cold weather. The car will burn more when the engine is cold. Using lights heaters air con to demist windows all affects economy. I'd say your problem will go away when the weather gets better

My RA can return figures that good. I've had over 500 Km's from a full tank mainly highway but some mountain driving. Normal driving I get anywhere from 250-350 and don't see much difference between summer and winter tbh.

Could just be small engine in a car that needs a bigger one. Also if you have AWD you'll be using a lot more fuel than a FWD Impreza.

Could be the engine coolant temp sensor any check engine light up? also is the engine temp halfway at normal temp when car fully warmed up as if it not the thermostat could be stuck open running the car to cold and this will burn more petrol aswell, you change the fuel filter also?

Re: SUbaru consuming too much fuel??

I'd have to agree with Wayne, 1.5L engine is working for too hard and drinking the juice.

engine temp is fine, the Engine Light is off, car seem to be running perfectly, But I believe there is a clear problem with the petrol consumption.
I have never changed the fuel filter. I may have to do as well just in case.
thanks for the advice

I agree with that statement as well, but how can the car was doing around 420 to 450 km with a full tank and now is doing just 350km?
Any other suggestion will be highly appreciate.

Re: SUbaru consuming too much fuel??

Well it's all as above really, firstly you say it's winter there. Everytime you start the car the choke is on and will stay on for longer. You say you drive short distances and in the city so that means the choke is on even more and your going through the gears too. Naturally you're going to be using more fuel.
Then you have your lights on, heater, etc etc. They are all goinf to be sucking the power from the engine and using more fuel.
Just keep it in good condition and well serviced, check your tyre pressures too.
Check Darrens point above about engine temp and thermostat

Re: SUbaru consuming too much fuel??

Matt and Wayne have made good points their maybe the engine to small for the body of the car but as it just seemed to happen with the fuel consumption have a look here sensor you can test the engine coolant temp sensor
