Does my WRX have PPP upgrade

2001 wrx Blob eye, just bought this and wasnt told it had PPP upgrade but few things make me think it may have. firstly the STI high level spoiler, prodrive alloys, hard boost pipe replaced with silicone one, what are the other ways to check also has uprated stainless exhaust.

Re: Does my WRX have PPP upgrade

Easiest way, look for the blue intercooler pipe on left front underside of the intercooler it will have the word "Prodrive" on it. Also the rear tip of the backbox should be "round" with the word prodrive on it.

The STI high level spoiler and prodrive alloys are not part of the WRX PPP upgrade.

I would not have know i had the PPP upgrade without the dealer telling me. Only things that give it away are above, the exhaust and blue intercooler.

Person who sold should really have told you for insurance reasons as it jumps right up because insurance robbing BLEEPS say it has been modified. Which it has but still, my insurance jumped from 500 to 850 because of it. Caused a right lot of hassle. Wish i hadn't opened my mouth (some of my friends didn't) in the first place but hey wouldn't want to have a bump then no payout!!

I dont think i got a certifiate either but will check.

Re: Does my WRX have PPP upgrade

Hi folks,
What are the clues to look for the PPP with an 04 STI (PPP)? Are they the same as mentioned above?

I have the original garage receipt which has something called a "prodrive kit" for 3,500 sterling. Would like to know for sure that my car has it though (although by the way it goes my guess is that it has )

Thanks.
Stephen

Not sure on the "Kit" I know the STi has a freer-flowing exhaust system.

STi "PPP"

I had a look around my engine bay. I can see the prodrive cat alright (at least I think that's what it is ) with the mesh around it.

In relation to the intercooler pipes...I'm guessing it's the ones underneath the intercooler, as in this pic?
I'll have to check them again because I wasn't sure what I was looking for this morning at home.

Somebody on another forum (sorry ) mentioned that the ECU unit has a sticker on it saying that it's being uprated to 305hp with a warning to tell your insurance company. They said this box was located under the glove box. I stuck my head down in the passenger footwell but couldn't spot any likely candidates. There was a large black plastic housing with Calsonic written on it, and various connectors, but nothing that I could tell was an ECU...mind you I've never seen one but nothing under there struck me as being it.

Maybe I don't have an ECU! Maybe Prodrive has invented the first self aware engine. I'll call it...Skynet. (before anyone tells me I need an ECU....I am joking)

So can anyone confirm that that's the right intercooler piping that should be blue with the PPP, and can anyone tell me where my ECU might be at so I can check if it's all stickered up.

Your STi should have the same down-pipe as this one.

In the passenger footwell fixed to the engine bulkhead. Lift the carpet from behind the glovebox and it is under a metal plate.

Re: Does my WRX have PPP upgrade

Was chatting to a tuner in Dublin who gets Bob Rawle over every now and then. I was telling him my specs and how I didn't have the blue intercooler pipe. He said that the new age cars don't get that replaced with the PPP.

I guess the only way I will really find out is to take it to a rolling road.
