bc coilovers

Hi guys,

My front struts have been needing replaced for a while, and apparently my only option now is coilovers - as nobody now manufactures aftermarket struts for my 06 sti. (except oem and they are expensive).

the performance garage that I use has mentioned BC coilovers. I've read a bit about them and the reviews seem generally good. They also seem reasonably priced.

Does anyone have any experience with these coilovers - good or bad?

I will be going from standard dampers & prodrive springs to these coilovers so what difference will I notice in ride comfort and height etc ?

The car is for road use only, and never on the track.

Thanks,
David

Re: bc coilovers

Surprised nobody has got BC coilovers fitted!

Anyway I had to make an attempt at getting rid of the creaking, so I have placed the order for the BC coilovers.
In total it's costing me 930 including fitting and geometry setup, including remote adjusters for the coilovers and rear camber bolts.

The work is getting done a week on Saturday so I'll post back with the results!

David

Re: bc coilovers

Do a search on Scoobynet about the BC coilovers knocking.

There is a fix for them involving different spring rates, best to speak to Bren @ Apex about it as they are the main importers of the BC.

Re: bc coilovers

Are the springs not tight enough then ? Not good if they are knocking. Looked at those myself.

Re: bc coilovers

Think it is to do with the spring mating to the rear topmounts, they can supply wider springs for use with the standard oem rear topmounts which appear to solve this problem.

Re: bc coilovers

BC's have been around for a long time, some tuners stopped selling thenm due to the very reasons mentioned above, wouldn't go anywhere near them myself, also sure theres a thread on here of a set failing and killing a car.

do kyb's and eibachs not fit?

Re: bc coilovers

hmm... thanks to everyone for waiting till after I bought them to let me know to avoid them!!

I did read about rear knocking, but read this had been sorted by re-using existing topmounts or ordering with oem style top mounts. apparently the previously supplied pillowball topmounts were the problem.

I also contacted BC racing and got confirmation of this, and a statement saying the new supplied topmounts solve the problem.

Anyway, I'll wait and see how they go.
If they are defective, then I still have the right to a refund in the worst case scenario.

Re: bc coilovers

Well, got my coilovers fitted on Saturday.
I must say I am happy with them. The car sits very nicely now. About an inch lower than it did with the prodrive springs.
Ride comfort is pretty good, not too hard at it's current setting (16/32). I've yet to play around with the dampening - but I got the extenders fitted at the rear so I can easily change the settings.
No knocking noises from the coilovers, as they were supplied and fitted with OE style top mounts at the rear.

Now all I need to do is sell my prodrive springs. Any offers ? They will fit 06/07 cars.

David

Re: bc coilovers

I'll get pics up at the weekend - got some before and after pics just need to upload.

They feel great on the car. Car previously had prodrive springs, and with the bc's on middle setting they feel very slightly firmer than the prodrive springs were in terms of ride hardness - but not uncomfortable.
Car sits much flatter when cornering and braking.

Once i've played with the settings i'll let you know how it affects the handling.
