Mods & Insurance

Just gave Tesco a ring...
Needed to know how much extra they would charge me on my policy for my dump valve & Afterburner

Afterburner increases BHP by at most 10 I told her.
She says thats a 20% increase in power by our records

um... how?! ops:

    evil insurance companies

Always worth declaring though Trip - I mean the thoughts of writing your Scoob off and not having any insurance cover is a very scary thought.

They do sting you though for whatever then can get

Will declare it, although I don't want to pay the extra!
As for wishing it was 20%, lets see what they say when I have a re-map

What BHP is that sir?
300

i'm with nelson on this one.
declare the mods and bite the bullet.....they will try and get out of it on a technicality if they can.
i had a car stolen and they tried to get out of paying because it had a sebring back box which wasn't declared.

300 extra for 30mm lowered suspension and a decat exhaust....not cheap but its worth it for piece of mind....thats with tesco as well.

Noted WW but please remember that it might not just be a car that gets nicked - I mean try and consider if you will having an accident in whcih you smash into someones house or worse still cause serious injuries to a third party (ies). Now we are talking personal injuries and taking a for instance it could just be a young exec guy who earns 100K a year and is confined to a wheel chair for the rest of his life.....your Insurers will be responsible for the loss of earning for that guy for many many years - Millions in compensation would be the result......I think any Insurance Company would REALLY look at your car for Mods etc and I can't see them accepting the "It was like that when I bought it" when we are talking serious compensation money. ops:

Just my 2p's worth - I've been working in the insurance industry to long I think

Ignoring the fact that the power increase figure is a joke, what was the premium increase?

20% extra?

I was with tescos, they told me they worked on a 10% increase band?

Trip, try subaru insured mate, i am paying the same with all my declared as tescos wanted for the basic car

Am with nelson on this and his last post speaks volumes.

How many companies will insure a declared decat, if it wont pass the emissions test?

i think you`d be suprised how many people dont declare mods actually not talkin scooby owners really just generally, tho ive got a mate well mate of a mate whos got a 4.2 twin turbo talbot samba and pays about 300 quid a yr to insure it declaring everything!!!!!!! 450 bhp how does that work!!!!!!! asked him and its down as a modified talbot samba guessin you cant really put it in to a insurance group lol.

They quoted an extra 75 odd, so not too bad, but I laughed at her when she said 20% more power
