Re: ECU Tek Remap or not??
they are great for the price paid, just all depends on who does yor mapping. make sure its a custom map for the mods on your car and not a generic map. Everyone has their favourite mappers, and it can depend on where you are in the country and how far you are willing travel to the mapper you choose, but there seems to be many 'new' mappers that have popped up over the past couple of years. best to use someone who has been doing it for many years and does come recommended.
If you want to spend the extra few hundred quid then you could get a simtek ecu fitted and mapped and have a duel map, anti lag, launch control , but how often are you going to use them - realistically if only a road car. My brother has had idling issues with his simtek, although his mapper has been happy to adjust any issues free of charge. I understand there has been a recent software upgrade for the simtek recently for this problem. Once you've paid for the ECUTEK licence future tweaks of the map are quite inexpensive. Just make sure you've got all you want on your car before the map. I've never heard of any problems with ECUTEK software, as long as good mapper have been used. Expect a smoother running car as well as a more powerful, responsive car. where have you heard mixed issues?

Re: ECU Tek Remap or not??
I've only heard mixed reviews from some local mappers, they map a lot of club cars and say that the ECUTEK software stops them from mapping it, maybe something to do with the licensing?? Bit out my depth here?!?
I probably won't go for the simtek or solaris as its more than I wanna spend really, plus I'm not really after anti lag or launch control with my first rex!? Jolly Green Monster is fairly local to me, although saying that he is mobile so shouldn't really matter. I hear good things from him so thats probably my first point of call, failing that then engine tuner down south are top knotch I hear? Will make sure everything that I'm modding is on before the map, although in two minds about getting uprated injectors or not?? I don't intend on changing the turbo so would it be worth it?? Only taking it to 300 bhp max. |

Re: ECU Tek Remap or not??
you'd be best to contact the mapper before hand to discuss your current mods to make sure they would be happy to map the car as it stands. your current injectors will fine for 300.
I hear that JGM is an excellent mapper, Holyfield on here used him and really rated him. Engine tuner is praised no end by JD on here and he has had much work done with them. I like Bob Rawle, based in Swindon, car is mapped on the road with you driving, and is a great experience. Maybe some mappers lock the ECUTEK software so no one else can work on it?? Just a guess.

Re: ECU Tek Remap or not??
as said mapper is the key, ecutek mappers are vetted by ecutek to make sure there ok, if they can;t get at the map then they don;t have the software and time to start asking yourself why they dont.

Re: ECU Tek Remap or not??
should also add that ecutek is prob the most widley used and respected mapping software amongst the top tuners/mappers.
