minor issues after 1st week of ownership

Just bought an 04 plate v-limited STI last week and its not as smooth to drive as I think it should be. At idle, its not steady as i'd expect it to be and while driving It seems to jerk/hesitate, it seems to do it more after a cold start but also does it when warm. Would using incorrect fuel have caused these problems? I put half a tank of normal unleaded in it when driving it back after buying as I couldn’t find any super unleaded. I’ve since filled it with v power and was thinking whether the 2 fuels mixing might be causing the problems.

Is there anything else that could be causing the hesistancy?

Couple of other questions :

1. The temperature needle sits just below the middle even after driving for 30 minutes. Is this right?

2. I’m also looking at changing the plugs this weekend, I’ve decided to go for the PFR7B’s after reading a few threads on here even though the manual recommends 6B’s. are these ok?

Finally, Is there anyway of finding out what map the car is running and whether the map could be tuned to make it run smoother? The car has the twin scroll turbo and the only mod I know of is the 4.5” ninja exhaust.

Re: minor issues after 1st week of ownership

Hi and welcome to the site, being a newage it should cope with the fuel ok,
You could throw it on a rolling road, it should show up what the issue is and also will tell you what boost ur running this will help tell if its standard or not, its twinscroll as its a sti and after 03(which I believe is the change over year from single to twin),
The temp needle doesnt really move above the middle no,

A rolling road will tell you for sure if anything is a miss like a Maf or 02 which could explain the rough ride/poor idle.
hope that helps a litlle.

Re: minor issues after 1st week of ownership

thanks for your reply.

With regards to the temp guage. the needle doesn't actually get to the middle it stays below. My other car is an A3 and I had to have the thermostat changed as it wouldn't reach 90 since the thermostat change the needle always sits at 90.

any ideas about the spark plugs ?

Those plugs will be fine. A lot of people run the PFR7's in their STi'S in the UK.

As for the temp, mine hovers around about the half way mark always, wether the temp outside is 4 degrees or 38 degrees and no mater how I drive. Would only really worry if you are getting extreme readings one way or the other.

if its running lumpy then it may not be mapped for the turbo, although i would be surprised if its not. best bet would be to get it on a dyno see whats happening, make sure the AFR is ok and that timing etc is as it should be.
