Question what are the methods to check the version of a GC8 STI ?

I'm going to buy my first STI and the owner says its a fifth version sti. but the YOM is marked as 1998 and the registration date is 1998.12. he says its a version 5 produced in the late 98.

chassis number is GC8-07**** and the engine number is something like 408*** .

Do those numbers mention the STI version? or are there any other methods to verify the version?

Thanks !

thanks 2002pete for the reply. that link should be bookmarked anyone using a subaru.

i got this chassis number and engine number information from the government department doing vehicle registration.

they says that the chassis number is something like GC8-077***.

I'm not sure from where this car has been imported. can someone help me to find more information about this car such as the sti version according to this number?

Hi mate.

That number is the Vin code. If you can pop up the applied model code (on the same plate in the engine bay) then you can check it against the list Pete has provided and will tell you what you have. Or post the number up here and we can give you all the info you want.
