reseting an ecu.

reseting an ecu.

does any body know if you can reset the ecu,
without a diagnostic computer,i was told that if you
disconect the battery overnight it will do the
trick.anyone have any advice as i have just
done a de-catand thougt it might run a bit
smoother.thanks in advace

That will do it but you will have no alarm!

Best done with a warm engine.
If you disconnect the neg terminal and turn the ignition and depress the brake pedal for about 30 secs to discharge the capacitors.
Re fit neg terminal and take it out but not on boost, hold it in 2nd or 3rd for about 6 secs at 2600rpm to reset the advance multipliers that ewill do it.

Then go for a spin, over the next 100 miles or so the ecu will relearn the new paramitters.
