My Spec C battery is f'''ked

I've recently got hold of a lightweight Varley redtop 25 battery (it's tiny, weighs only 6kg. Its to replace my original and dying battery. The Spec C has small terminal clamps about 10-12mm wide. the redtop battery did not come with terminal posts so i was advised on another forum to buy posts for it. the brass posts arrived today and they are sized for a normal battery clamp. So wasted my money and don't know what to do next. any help pointing me in the right direction would be great

Here's a piccy of the new brass terminal post against the spec C battery clamp n posts

How about getting hold of some larger terminal clamps? They're pretty cheap.

Thinking if you take the terminal leads off the old battery Andrew and then think what you saying that in the new battery the brass posts you have their screws into new battery ya? and when the brass posts screwed into new battery all you need to do is the bolt and washer on new brass stud take it off and screw it into the hole of the terminals leads of the neg and positive and fit the bolt and washer through the hole where the existing old battery post use to be if you get what I'am saying if the bolt dont fit, fit a longer one making sure it connected right and Bobs your uncle Id say

Re: My Spec C battery is f'''ked

Looks like that's the winner. If i had more patience this morning and did not flip out when i saw the size of the brass posts, i may have been able to have spotted this. Thanks mate, eveer thought of moving to cardiff? you'd come in handy

What a banana i am

So ..

1. screw on brass post
2. put terminal clamp on top
3. put washer and bolt through clamp hole into brass post

I hope you realise how much of a better mood thats put me in!

all i've got to do now is find a better way of keeping the battery in place. Not sure if you've ever seen a varley redtop 25 battery, its about the size of a car stereo. thank god i've got a battery conditioner in the garage. I think you can buy purpose made brackets,, - more blo#dy money

Thanks
Darren

Nice one Darren!

That'll learn me not to read posts/look at pics properly. Didn't even notice the bolt.

Bit off topic, but not 5 minutes ago I was wondering when you were gonna be changing your avatar from Santa. Got a saucy .gif I'm considering for my next avatar.

I was going to try and keep santa all the way until december, but it just felt like a fitting moment to replace it

Re: My Spec C battery is f'''ked

not sure i'll be paying 50 notes for an RCM bracket. I'm looking into gettinng a bracket/case, which probably cost just as much. i can't believe that buying a new battery has caused so much hassle - and money! the redtop battery wasn't cheap, the posts were 12 quid and now i need a holding case. Bloody cars! the battery is so thin that the RCM clamp would be too short if i mounted the battery sideways and if mounted normal(frontways) it may leave the battery a little unstable. If i knew then what i know now i just would have gone down halfords and bought a bog standard battery.
