Re: Impreza Safety

you say that but they are almost a safety cage as standard,
I know it wont take the energy away like the new cars do but if ur inside it you are protected,
If you ever look behind the dash you can see they are built with some safety in mind,

Its all crumple zones in new cars and they are built to transfer the energy of the accident to another zone which sounds great but they arent actually that strong from what I can see,
Thats why they are wrote off easily imo,
If you have a silly speed accident there isnt much that can be done,

Drive safe and you will always live longer then a fool in a safe car.

Re: Impreza Safety

A 4 star rating for a bug isn't bad and is comparable to most of the VW's on there, so would imagine a classic is a 3 star rating. As Bob said, there is a lot of re-inforcemnt on classics (esp. post facelift). I have a picture of a bare shell Classic STi with sections of the body work removed and dash out and it has side impact protection as well as a huge great beam that goes across the car just behind the dash.

If you read the wikipedia page on the STi, it mentions that the newer cars had far stronger structures, but that made the B pillar incredibly strong which meant cutting passengers out in the event of an accident could be difficult.

Re: Impreza Safety

a mate can vouch for classic scoob saftey,he was on one of the main roads down here,on his way home from work(with a little haste),came round a bend to find a line of traffic stationary, applied brakes, rear end slipped out(oil, grease on the road)spun several 360's,bouncing off 6 other veihicles, when he came to a stop got out and ran to all the car's he's come in contact with to see if everyone was ok,only injury he sustained was a small cut above his right eye from when the driverside mirror put the window in!!

Re: Impreza Safety

i agree ive worked in A&E for years now and its really intresting when we see bad RTA comming in the patients suffer worse obscure injurys in newer cars than the older ones.
the only thing is cars hittiing people there better off

the other thing about new car testing is they concentrate all efforts around 30/40 mph

old sccobs are designed for high impact crashes id rather be cut out of a car than become apart of it
