K and N filter issue

Replaced my maf sensor a couple of months ago as it was failing and also recommended to get a new one for the mapping of the car fitted a K and N panel filter round the same time, had no issue's at all with car but 3 weeks ago the idle started to idle irractically just like the old Maf sensor went, so went to garage and took out the maf sensor cleaned it with carb cleaner and with the K and N Panel filter hoovered the oil off it aswell, got paper towel and took most oil off it and be surprised a fair bit of oil came off it think I remember Wayne saying the Version 5-6s Maf sensors v senistive mine is the green marked one, ever since I done this, problem never returned so ruleing out the IACV now say it was the oil on panel filter disturbing Maf Sensor

Re: K and N filter issue

Green filters arent as heavily oiled but I have told a few people to remove the excess oil on K&N`s, they have always seemed wet in that plastic bag when new

Re: K and N filter issue

Oil catches micro dust and the like... better filtration

When you clean the filter with the specific K&N Cleaner, it clears the oil... ready for re-oil...

Green panel filters use same cotton type filter but use lots less oil...

MAF can get upset by an excess of fine oil that gets sucked onto it

Hope this helps

Re: K and N filter issue

But to go mafless he'll be looking at Simtek or similar right, with the added expense that entails? With an EcuTek Map you don't have the option to go mafless afaik. Sure you'll set me straight if I'm wrong Duncan.

Was going to go for an EcuTek map for mine when it gets back in April, but am seriously considering the Simtek now for the option of mafless and dual maps.

By the time you factor in the cost of ecutek map and still being stuck on a maf based system, the Simtek looks great value. I can do a good deal on Simtek for you but the problem becomes mapping it as you arent in this country iirc

And I aint paying for you to come out here.

I'm almsot certainly going Simtek I think. Will be back in April permanently (with car), then it's gearbox out, new clutch and synchros, then time for a Map. Will be in touch nearer the time for a price as already know what other decent mappers charge.

Re: K and N filter issue

Damn LOL

No probs - Simtek is the way forward to cure these issues and the new full knock control will be out then so a win win.
