Bit of a suprise today
Well as some of you might be aware I've been having bad times with the scoob...it's in for work to the gearbox and a service.
The garage called today to say the gearbox was missing two bolts. There were only four when there should be six. The second hand box to be fitted (which came from another 2000 turbo) only had four bolt holes. So it turns out that the box is infact a wrx box. The garage thought this may be why the bearings have gone because it's not the right box for the engine... This is where it gets fun! After a bit more probing in the car and on the net it turns out the serial numbers on the engine don't add up. The engine is a wrx engine. So at some point the car has had an engine and gearbox change (I always thought the car was quicker than 215 bhp) only problem is I still need a new box and it needs to be a wrx box as the garage don't think a 2000 turbo box will work. Any thoughts?

Re: Bit of a suprise today
wrx classic (import) would be about 250bhp, UK classic late version 215.
Sorry to sound negative Strat, but with the history of problems you've had with the car and the now strange engine and gearbox fitment, perhaps you should dig a little deeper with the car ![]()

Re: Bit of a suprise today
Yea it's all confusing.
No I don't mind the comments, it all helps. I think I'm done with spending money on this car even though I do love it...when it works. The garage have said the crash has caused the box to mid allign so it looks like the car could now be a right off (not sure why it wasn't before...1700 worth of repairs) so there might be some silver on this rain cloud. How do they work out the value? It's insured for 4500.

Re: Bit of a suprise today
prob give you basic market value for the car but if you argue wiht the insurance and prove you can t gat another car the same forma dealer for that cash they will prob give you more but be prepared to get your rim felt over this one
might be better getting the car back from them and breaking it this may give you some more cash |

Re: Bit of a suprise today
if the car is a 'Cat C' write off or less the car can then be fixed and checked and be put back on he road. I paid 10% of the cars value to buy my classic back from insurers.

I'm screwed aren't I! Looks like I won't be coming out of this without losing somewhere.
What do you think my best option would be?

Re: Bit of a suprise today
i got 4k for my UK99 Turbo last march, so i'd think that 3K is feesable. I'm not sure if all insurers will sell you back the car? i went through a company a called Radar. i didn't have my insurance policy with them but it was totally legitimate to use another company other than my own when making the claim, the accident was not my fault, i'm not sure if that made the difference?. Was the crash your fault?
I think 10% is about standard

Re: Bit of a suprise today
hmmm, interesting, the older UK boxes are only a 4 bolt fitting...i had an early box on mine as my O/E one spat 2nd n 4th for no reason, now runing an 04 WRX box, also if you said your car is pretty rapid, don't rule out it having a PPP,mine did,had no idea until it put out 240 on the rollers, don't think it's all doom n gloom,as Wayne said, post up the engine code, box code and any other code and i'm pretty sure Wayne will fine all the info you need
