wouldn't know where to look for the ecu details.

The car is in the garage so can't look at the throttle body.

Where are the engine model codes stamped?

Re: Bit of a suprise today

Well it looks pretty similar...I wouldn't know the differences to look for!

It's hard from memory but it looks like the oil header tank is in a different place...I think it's closer to the radiator on mine?

Re: Bit of a suprise today

the 'original' engine code is on the vin plate of course under the bonet near the suspension strut.
Late classics MY2000 models had colour coded wing mirrors, door handles, and skirts. MY 98/99 models may have had colour coding also as an extra option or add on??
it should have one of these ecu's if a uk car ......... ae800 , ae801 , ae802

Re: Bit of a suprise today

Mine is an my00 car.

I'll get the garage to check the ecu tomorrow. If it isn't the original engine the code on the vin would be wrong. Where on the actual engine could I find domes codes

Sti filter...straight through exhaust, turbo back and baileys bov. That's all I know. I haven't done anything to it.

No idea about the ecu. How would I find out?
ECU is situated in the passenger footwell. lift carpet, remove plate and have a look.

Re: Bit of a suprise today

Right ecu codes tomorrow then.

So if the engine has 4 bolt holes for the box it means it's a wrx and it had been swapped? But the gearbox is right because the codes match up to my car.

Not necessarily. Didn't Ed say the early UK turbos had 4 bolt holes? If so you may just have an early UK turbo engine, but could just as easily be a WRX engine. Reet confusing. Not sure on the differences on the UK turbo's as know nothing about them.

Re: Bit of a suprise today

Yea I guess it could be either...but I'd think that from the factory it would have had a late classic engine (6 bolt holes) so it does look like it has been changed.

Come to think of it the bodysho did say there had been some repair work done in the past. Maybe there is more to this car!

I think I'm going to see if I get hold of the previous owner
