Service & Broken Diff!

Right so the car went back to the garage that rebuilt 5th gear....

...he confirmed that it was a diff problem and that it was nothing to do with the work he had already done on the gearbox because "we didn't touch the diff" (even though I thought they were one unit?)

He says that he flushed the system but here I am with swarf and rank oil rushing around damaging the box/diff. He won't do any repairs for free as he says its a coincedence.

I'm annoyed.

He came back with the prices today....66+VAT for each bearing...so thats 132+VAT for the diff parts...plus oil and labour....he said that because I was a returning customer and I had already spent a lot of money he'd sort me out a decent price....550+VAT....and thats without finding any other problems.

So its going to this other gargage that came recommended.

He has a box/diff from a crashed car which he had worked on in the past.

350-380 for the new(old) box/diff...mine taken out and that one put in with all the oil and I can keep my current box/diff for any future parts or if i want it rebuilt for big power. I also mentioned my service...550 for the above plus the service with whatever oil I want.

So my goodies are waiting in the spare room until this work is done

Re: Service & Broken Diff!

Sorry to hear about your troubles but sounds like you're on the right track now. I started having trouble about a year ago and really lost the will to carry on with it. In the end it gave me the determination I needed to rebuild the whole car.
