Performance

Hi guys i have a question that i need answer as soon as possible. I drive a 2008/09 wrx sti and this morning while drive i decided to speed up i notice that while in forth and fifth gears and about 110k that the rmp needle hesitates to move from 5000 rpm to 7000. I tried it several times and the car just does not respond like it should. Any thoughts? The car is still factory stock no mods. Any thought before i take to the dealers garage.

Re: Performance

iirc, you're car is a Japanese import right? Have you had it mapped for 90 Ron fuel? If not are you using Octane booster? 90 ron is very, very low octane fuel and as such shouldn't really be used in an Impreza at all, but if you have to use it then you must map for it or use octane booster at the very least. If you are using octane booster make sure you are getting a mix that is as close to 100 ron as possible.

Running an STi on low octane fuel will cause all sorts of issues, including retarding the ignition to avoid detonation which may be what you are experiencing.

As above and dont think you can get a good octane booster to raise 10ron to make 100ron to be honest Lucas is a good brand and NF octane booster to but cant see them raising the octane number by 10ron would want to be an amazing octane booster to do that, did you get it mapped?

Re: Performance

Definitely detting it's titties off on that fuel.

Do you have bioethanol or similar on the island ?

10% mix of that on the std car should raise the octane level enough for it to be driveable - be useful if the local dealer checked it was all okay aswell though.

Re: Performance

ECU TEK would be perfect. There are some Uk ecu specialists willing to travel (including Duncan above, by the looks of it). I would not use the car at all until it was mapped for the correct fuel. You could ruin a brand new car!!

Re: Performance

If its a standard car cant you get a mapper in the uk to map a spare ECU for your car and get it sent over to you?
If its mapped to say 95 ron fuel that will cover your arse.
Just my 2pence worth.
