cutting out at speed???

96 sti import.
Was out last night.... on a private road...when stepping on the gas it pulled like a train untill it hit 120 then shut down for a split second then started to pull then shut down, this happened several times. On my way back I tried again and it pulled by 140 with not a problem.
Any ideas?? I had just put fuel in 2/3 miles before, coil, plugs, just strange it was ok on return leg.

Re: cutting out at speed???

Is the the car de-limited as you might have just hit the limiter as in the car restricted? also proberbly not but is it a case of bad fuel but hardly?

Re: cutting out at speed???

If it was pulling past 140 on the way home then doubt it is still restricted. JDM cars are restricted by law to 180 Kmh (112 Mph) so you wouldn't be getting past that let alone up to 140, so would agree with tidgy and say probably overboost, especially if it was very chilly outside.

Re: cutting out at speed???

it's as Tidge say, overboost or could well have been fuel cut,if the veihicle is running an IK and the bonnet vent is open, the cold air temp will effect running this will also occur if its raining, the damp will get in and hit the MAF,therefore thowing up a code, causing the ECU to hold back..
