Re: Impreza turbo and remap ???
Hi Nigel and welcome to the site,
you have a TD04 turbo which is capable of (typically) 270 -280bhp, sometimes a little more(it's quite small, but very responsive). However, to get this you need to also make other modifications. The most simple and most widely agreed upgrades are as follows......... Change of exhaust system (remove the CAT's so the engine can breathe/flow easier - or Sports cat system if needing to get through MOT emissions) change the Panel air filter from paper to a cotton ('green' cotton is a prefered filter,,, not an oily one as this can cause issues) upgrade your fuel pump to (255L) you will then need to have software programmed onto your ECU - usually ECUTEK, this will open up your ecu to a ecu specialist 'mapper', and then the above mod's can be pulled together and utilized and then much more power can be extracted from your engine. This is the safest and most tried and tested way of doing things. Andrew

only comment i would make on that dude, is for the td04 you don't have to have a fuel pump. although they aint mega expensive and wont hurt.

Fuel pump not essential as Tidgy says... but good idea as originals are prone to weakness and they are simple to fit and not expensive Good luck and I would recomend Bob Rawle for your re-mapping needs http://www.brdevelopments.com/

Re: Impreza turbo and remap ???
A remap on the std car will gain a lot in terms of driveability and also net more peak power (to around 250-260bhp). If you wanted to change exhausts then you can gain more (to around 280bhp)
A remap will make the car run more efficiently and I quite often find owners reporting much better fuel economy after remaps (as well as much better performance). The 2001 wrx makes a very good base but there would be two things that I would suggest that will help... firstly a walbro 255 fuel pump (for safety - there is no poiint turning the wick up if it makes it unsafe), secondly is a 3 port boost solenoid (the original 2 port and the weak actuator on the TD04 mean it wont be possible to raise boost too much). I travel the country remapping so gimme a shout if you want to chat through what your options are...
