98 Impreza help please

Hi my 98 impreza turbo wagon is idleing erracticly bascially as soon as the car is warm the rpm goes really low and and today started to stall the car also the same time as the idle started playing up the speedo stopped working all the other gauges are fine. I have the car booked in to a local Subaru garage next week but was wondering whether anyone had any ideas of what this could possibly be
Thanks

Maf sensor bud classic symtom check it by doing this start the engine plug the maf sensor out it should cut the engine out if it dont and engine keeps running its the maf sensor but I dont think it a very accurate test but the symtoms sound 99% maf sensor could be Idle Air Control Valve (IACV) to but Id reckon Maf sensor as for the speedo problem check the lead at the back of clock heard it can get loose and fall out if its ok then its the vehicle speed sensor on gearbox small fix this

Re: 98 Impreza help please

I had the same thing on my 2005 wrx 300 - no speedo, ran like a bag of poo and engine warning light was on.
It was a drive worm in the gearbox which opperates the speed spensor, part cost me 12 but the gearbox had to be stripped to get at it.
Was getting idle contoll valve and speed sensor faults, these were replaced to no effect
Hope this helps.

Could still be the MAF, and judging by the symptoms that is where my money would be. When mine failed had all the symptoms but unplugging the MAF stopped the engine just like yours. Soon as I changed the MAF car as back to normal.

have you checked for fault codes? MAF is 23 on a classic.
