Open Deck vs Close Deck Block

The RA comes with a closed deck block, shorter gearing & rally flap style roof vent.

Just seen this their does it really make a big difference to the block?????

Legacy Central - Open vs Closed deck So is a Closed Deck a lot stronger than Open ya??????

the closed deck block is alot stronger so allows more boost.

the closed deck block allows improved head gasket sealing this allows it to be more open to tuning.
the term closed deck refers to the cylinder liners .They are not exposed at the cylinder head gasket face this makes a much stiffer block .

Darren, my threads on JDM specs list which models have the closed deck and which have the open deck.

Models that came with closed deck block + engine code are:

WRX A/B; EJ20GDW1HD (no A/C), EJ20GDW1HE (with A/C)
STI Ver. I; EJ20GDW1HD (no A/C), EJ20GDW1HE (with A/C)
WRX A Type RA; EJ20GDW1HJ (no A/C), EJ20GDW1HR (with A/C)
WRX B Type RA; EJ20GDW2HJ
WRX C Type RA; EJ20GDW4HJ
WRX STi Ver. II Type RA ; EJ20GDW5PE
