Classic 4 pot question

Just a quick question. The standard Subaru 4 pots on the Classic STi's are not Brembo's right? Got a guy on YT who has made a vid about the 22B claiming it comes with Brembos branded as Subaru Brakes. Now I know the 22b comes with the same brake set up as the V4 STi and I am 99.9% certain that they are nothing to do with Brembo, otherwise anyone with the classic 4 pots is already running Brembo's. Just looking for confirmation of this before I reply to the guy.

Re: Classic 4 pot question

Hi Wayne, I'm sure the brakes were standard 4-piston/2-piston brakes. However, the color is red and the Subaru name cast on the brake calipers and painted white.

Re: Classic 4 pot question

they may have been made by brembo but not labelled. I have heard it mentioned somewhere else about the 22b, but as you say they are the same as on the classic STI. Gold Brembos although 4 piston are bigger, - put it this way they are definatley better than the 'subaru' 4 pots (trust me on this).

That's the vid I am referring to. My YT username is Machidaman. I think he is saying what you suggested Andrew that the callipers are made by Brembo for STi, but that means all JDM STi's have the Brembo front calipers, as the front kit on the 22B is lifted straight from the V4 STi and just painted red not black. he rears are just taken from the Type RA STi's I guess

Re: Classic 4 pot question

Guy is claimimg that the calipers are made by Brembo and just branded as Subaru, I guess that is possible, but surely Subaru would make a point of that in their literature. Also why suddenly change to branding the calipers as Brembos on the new age STi, but continue to use the old Subaru (brembo??????) branded 4 pots on the new age WRX. Doesn't make sense. Mitsubishi brand theirs as Brembos so why wouldn't Subaru do the same??? I know the Type RA-R has STi branded brembo's but Subaru were never shy about admitting to that.

Info i've found on the suspension & brakes. Bilstein inverted type strut with eibach hard type springs. The brakes fitted were the standard Subaru 4 pot calipers. Front: vented discs with 4-pot aluminum calipers. Rear: Vented disks with new rear 2-pot aluminum calipers. Both were painted in a bright red colour. No mention of "Brembo"

.

Same info I have Pete. All my Japanese books/brochures on the subject make no mention of Brembo until the new age cars. I wonder why Subaru would make an issue of Brembo brakes on new age cars but not on the classics. Would be most odd.
