04WRX Strange Noise at 64 (ish) mph

Well i noticed this noise a long time ago... its a whining noise at the 64 - to 70mph mark.

Car is going down CVC for a gear box strip next week.... a factory problem has been identified..

Please say hello to Paul (sevice manager).... He would like some cards for the site Gareth.

BTW, Jamie (manager) has indicated full support to the Wales meet... will sort out proper details when known. Use my proper name if they ask, Dean.

Ref Gearbox noise... interested to know the outcome of this.

Nobby.

Hi nobby, long story cut short for you Mate
Viewed car (second hand-ex prodrive), test drove gearbox notchy into 4th&5th.
Told "will be fixed when you pick it up" wasn't done:evil:
Car booked in to have it done, got car back
4 weeks later, noise  told its ok to drive too busy to do it for a while
Buzz not HP at this, phones subaru assist, guy comes out and drives car  "you cant drive that" he said, "funny i told them that too" said I.
Car taken to garage, loan car not available  got taken to hire place all they had was HUGE van " need wheels" said I, "thats all we have" said nice girlie " that will do for tonight, i have to go back to work (its now 6.30pm), home and back to work early in the morn! deliver me a proper car at work tomorrow"
I drove HUGE van, they delivered car.
Phoned garage "we are busy"
left for a few days phoned Garage " Taken box out, can't find owt wrong"
I drove my top of range vectra replacement over to see my car sat 100 yards away from workshop not touched    Buzz is less than HP!
Lots of red faces and aftersales manager refused to see me!
next day Buzz phones subaru customer care and rants down phone, sub cc phone garage, not much joy.
Buzz looks up sidc website and finds out about Oakens, unfortunatly, as car in garage cant be taken away to a proper garage
Eventually after 4weeks, yes 4 weeks Buzz gets a call " cars ready" " thank feck" says I.
4 weeks of fun later it was time for service ( at oakens) and quickshift fitted, then Japfest at castle coombe, and the sites first official meet up.
One happy Buzz and Wendy depart, good belt down motorway and pull off up slip road, turns down music to hear Wendy give directions and  " what the F*** is that noise"
Bearly able to hear each other talk as we pull into cc, Buzz is not happy
Was a bit of a miserable git when i meet Gar, big E, cat 17, nelson & newie.
Left early to make sure we got home, phoned Oakens to report sick car " no probs, get it here we will get it done"
Car taken in on monday, tech guy off sick till wednesday
9.30 wed' morn phone rings " steve here from oakens, spoken to subaru new box on its way" " ok, any idea when i might see my car" "friday all being well" ( Hmmm, heard that before).
Friday morn' " just taken your car fir a test drive, pick it up when you are ready" " but thats 3 days youv'e had it" " YEP, your car was off the road so we fixed it" was the reply  again.
Well, what can i say, I went to the offy on the way and bought a crate of beers for the guys in the workshop and a nice bottle for steve
BUT in the mean time this STi had been sending secret messages to me saying "buyme, buy me", Guy in garage says " you keep looking at that Sti" " no not me"
B***ard gave me the keys then didn't he!
The next week it was sat on my drive! 8)
felt a bit guilty they had turned my car around in 3 days, but we are still friends and I wouldn't take my car anywhere else now
As for the other lot, wouldn't "P" on em if they were on fire!

Bit longer than planned, but naot as long as it could have been

Wow what a story mate.

Didnt realise the ammount of hassle you had to put up with.... a good dealer is a huge part of the overall experience in car ownership....

You sound well sorted now and Sti mistress on the drive.....

I have to go off line for a while my daugter has been waiting for me to finish this post.

Be back later.

Thanks nobby, lots of wind noise though ( especially at the speed you drive  )

Can get a bit irritating though, and when the wipers are on!

Na, just turn the stereo up more

Lol at Buzz

Thanks for the reminder

Have noticed a big difference in handling and road noise since fitting the new wheels and tyres.... Better handling.... firmer ride and more road noise.

Interesting. :!:
