Clutch

Hi all

Just wondering if my clutch should be so difficult to find the biting point. I normally leave the car to run on first start for a couple minutes but I always get mass shudder from 1st gear unless I put my foot down on the petrol. Once the car has warmed up properly tho its fine. Maybe its just me or it may need a retune? I hope the clutch is not knackered but it was checked and my mechanic said it was fine.

Re: Clutch

Had similar problem with cars with this fault including my impreza fella... This can be down to two things usually. That is worn clutch linings or pressure plate. Secondly down to a distorted flywheel. It was the flywheel on mine that i recently replaced. Problem sorted. You may find it becomes less when the vehicle is warm due to expansion of parts under heat..

Re: Clutch

Whats "full bore standing starts ?"

I had better get it checked out again I think as it was serviced just a few months ago so can't be plugs etc. How much did the flywheel cost?

Re: Clutch

Probably nothing to worry about. It's a common problem with the classic Imprezas. Mine has done it since i bought it, and only when cold and many other people tell the same tale.

Re: Clutch

Just had a word with Jem Subaru and they said the outer plate on the clutch warps causing the judder. Doesnt do any more damage and is common. The clutch is fine no slipping or anything so I might leave it for a while, at least until after the snowboard season

Thanks fellas

Re: Clutch

Yeah the outer plate is the pressure plate there is a good chance that is distored. The flywheel was the problem with mine. Not sure on the cost of one mate I had a spare one lying round the garage.. It wont do any damage just can be annoying..
