1992 impreza type ra

Hello i am just wondering if you could help, i have always been a rover v8 or american v8 person owning and still owning a 1972 Ford Mustang, a 1969 Dodge charger rt, an mgb gt v8, a bowler wildcat (5.2 tvr v8) and other smaller cars inc a 1968 morris minor with small block ford v8.
i have until recently never driven an impreza (with all of my friends telling me i should) i had a small drive in a friends 1992 type ra and was completely and utterly astounded with it so much so that i bought it.
all of my other cars just fail into insignificance now, everytime i drive it i cannot believe how quick it is and how controlled it is too.
What is so special about this car are all imprezas this quick or have i got something special.
have to say i have been completely turned to the dark side.
will try and post a pic asap.
thanks
wayne

RA's are something special.

Don't get me wrong , been a fan of Imprezas since i was in my teens and they are all great cars, but the Type RA's/Spec C's are a bit more great imo.

Few owners on here now as word seems to have spread and they are growing in popularity in the UK.

Re: 1992 impreza type ra

ra's are the fastest point to point and off the line impreza out there, there light weight, short ratio gearbox and go like absolute stink.

there not very good for long jurneys because of the gear ratio's, but on the b roads they are fantastic.

im running 340bhp in mine (not a ra) and a standard type ra will easily keep up with me until about 100mph, even though it gives away 60ish bhp

Re: 1992 impreza type ra

i may be wrong, but the really old 'original' RA's were also the lightest.
As said above the gearing on these cars is fantastic. it means you are always in a mid to high rev range and so always in a turbo boost area. I think the gearing makes them more akin to a super bike than normal car

Spot on Andrew. Original RA weghed in at only 1170 Kg. That is 30 Kg less than the original WRX, and 80 less than than the Version 5&6 RA's (90 less than my Ltd).

i have just found lots of reciepts in a file friend gave me with car along with a reciept for 3900 engine rebuild in march this year, 680 for a helix racing clutch and other smaller reciepts totalling nearly 1000 and a dyno sheet saying it has 322bhp from ultima\te performance.

The Smile never fades with a ra, standard 0-60 low 4 secs with 240 bhp

Re: 1992 impreza type ra

hello nathan, it does not have a fmic at present but i hvae just had a seriously huge high flow one made by a friend of mine that owns allisport, he has always made my intercoolers for my landrovers and racing cars, this is a one off special (only problem is trying to mount it). am bidding on a pipe kit on ebay at present.
Im not sure what else to do to it but im also not sure how much more i want out of it as i need relaibility too. there is not an aweful lot of places i can really put all of its power down now apart from my local race track.
I have noticed one small downside to driving an impreza..... why does all the little boy racers in their little clios and corsas think they can beat me and try and race me at every dual carriage way.
will join your site now.
thanks a lot

Re: 1992 impreza type ra

thats is the only down side for some reason they think they can win
every impreza driver i know has the same effect on pointless idiots in saxo's/corsa's/etc etc

look forward to seeing you at SUBARU IMPREZA TYPE RA - HOME

IF only they knew

dont bother with corsas go for the 911's

regards nathan

sounds like you've got a good one. i would definately find out what was done on the rebuild. As said above, chances are you now have a much stronger engine so the possibilities for even me power(if so required) is definately possible. Also, good to know you have a hardcore clutch for further enhancements

Re: 1992 impreza type ra

only paid 1500 for it as he was desperate for cash and knew it would go to a good home, decided to take all dash apart to fit wiring for boost controllers and gauges today.
