Remap results....

Iv got a 2001 WRX with a full de cat 3" turbo back system, k&N pannel filter and dump valve.

Iv had a ECUTEK remap and we managed 260bhp out of it.

It feels a lot more lively as he got 50lb's more torque out of it.

I am a bit upset as I was expecting 275bhp but he said he was struggling to get more boost.
He checked some vacume pipes and a valve was on the wrong way round so he sorted that but im still a bit unsatisfied.
I got the impression he was expecting more too, as after he asked if I still had a cat fitted....?

What could cause this? is it worth twisting the screw 1 turn on the actuator arm to um the boos manually?

Re: Remap results....

It depends on what your turbo is boosting at the momment,if it is boosting below 0.8 bar and the boost seems to drop off then adjusting the actuator can remedy the boost issues, but if it is running 1.0 bar + you could do more harm than good. Might be worth just giving all the pipes a good blow out first to make sure you have not got a clogged wastegate. If you decide to adjust the actuator arm,be careful when removing the circlip, and turn the screw 1 turn(anti clockwise) at a time, then take it for a drive.

Re: Remap results....

If the actuator is clogged do i need a new one or can you take it apopart and clean it out.
The mapper had the boost pipes off yest and cloeaned them out so its not looking like clogged pipes.
Il find out what boos it was mapped at and we'll go from there

Re: Remap results....

It is mapped at 14.5psi so it it worth maybe having half a turn on the actuator screw?

Re: Remap results....

260bhp out of an 01 wrx isn't that bad, tis a tad low but results vary from car to car.

don;t get too hooked on figures, they vary from car to car, i know a uk turbo that decated and mapped, no mater what they did, wouldn;t go above 245bhp. normally they get 260bhp ish. the same map was applied to another car and ran 255 without even being tweeked for that car.

as far as tweekeing the actuator leave well alone, the ecu will be set for certain boost and airflow, if you change that without changing the fueling you could seriously screw your engine up by mucking up the afr.

if your not happy with the result then take it back to the mapper and get them to have a look, if its mechanical im sure they can find the prob and sort it for you.

I went to The Racing Lince (UK) Ltd- Engine & ECU Modification and Tuning, Turbo Kits & Superchargers, iv used them before and they are very respected for attention to detail and quality mapping so im happy going there.
The owners everyday runabout is a 375bhp wagon which is sweet!

I'm looking at a re-map on my 04 wrx, if you go with a full decat system will that get through an m.o.t?? If not is as simple as putting a cat back on??

Also chap would you recommend the tuners you went to??

Will pass gas test with centre cat back on... then take off again after MOT

As I did last week

Re-map should be done cat free for best results

Ensure you change to a high flow panel filter and good fuel pump first Walbro 255L

Good luck and let us know how the remap turns out
