hitting boost cut, need help to lower boost

Hi guys,

i have had my 03 blob eye wrx for 6 months now and since i have installed my boost guage (electronic type, altho had to run a boost hose to the guage sensor unit) i have been hitting boost cut at about 16psi, the car is standard and all i want to do is lower the boost a couple of psi to avoid hitting the boost cut, i thought that if i wound the actuator out a bit, like you did in the old days on he cossie for instance, that this would lower the boost, but no joy as i soon figured that these days is all controlled electronicley (i think),

is there a way that i can lower the boost without having it re mapped at a huge cost?

obviousley taking the guage out of the equation would probabley fix it, but its pretty with lights woo hoo

Hi, when you fitted the boost gauge how and where did you T in and have you touched any of the pipes off the boost solenoid at all?
only there is a restrictor pill in 1 of the small pipes that prevents over boost.

Re: hitting boost cut, need help to lower boost

thanks for your replys, yea i agree masking the problem is not realy the way forward unless its just running too much boost, mabey the previous owner run a diferent set up or something then took mods off before selling it, i dont know but possible, then when i added the guage its could have allowed more boost through some how?

the way i fited it was as follows in this link

Scoobypedia | Trusted knowledge for everything Subaru | Knowledge / Boost Gauge

is this correct?

i have also checked for the pill inline near the actuator and its all present and correct

any other ideas?

thanks again

Mark

get it to a specialist matey, you could chase the isseu round the engine bay costing a fortune in parts and still not find the issue. it can be cause by dozens of different things.

Re: hitting boost cut, need help to lower boost

the only time i knew what boost it was running was when i put the guage on, it reads 16psi for a second then boost cuts, but it must have ran more boost after the gauge went on as it didnt cut prior to then

it should run 13.5psi i beleive, standard

Re: hitting boost cut, need help to lower boost

sorted it out finaly, there was a loose boost hose with no clamp that obviousley leaked when under presure, i gave all the boost hoses the once over made sure all jubiley clips were tight etc etc. for some reason it made no effect for firs few runs but come the third run out its was perfect boosting and holding at 12psi.

does any one think that this was just the ecu taking its time to get used to the fact that there was no longer a leak? is that how it works?

As above ^^^^ for example my car was mapped for 95ron petrol we recently got 99ron here so after a full tank of 99ron petrol I reset ecu as it speeds up the learning again of the ecu and after a few miles you would feel the extra power a bit from the 99ron
