Newbie - Need Help On Next Car!

Hi Guys

I'm new here so go easy on me please

I currently own an Audi A3 2.0 TDi S-Line and Accord Type-R but really fallen for the Impreza (2004 model!) and the lower prices make them ever so tempting! Thinking of selling both and buying a Impreza.

But, I love the STI but not sure i should go for one so thinking WRX. The only reason being is the MPG

Now for the Q's:
1) Is there a big difference in MPG between the WRX and WRX STI?

2) And what do they average in MPG in town and motorways?

3) And, what are the common probs on a 2004 model? Looking at something like this: Auto Trader UK - SUBARU IMPREZA 2.0 WRX STI TYPE UK 4DR

go for the sti all the way and dont think about the fuel if you want a scooby

Hi Kaz,

STi's (2003-2005) have had problems with 'knocking' rear shock absorbers. shock. Should be replaced under warranty if not expired or replace with aftermarket ones.

Go for the Sti you wont be disapointed bit of a firmer ride again than WRX also got bigger brakes, tuned suspension and forged internals go on just buy it you know you want to more power aswell

Hi - Thanks for that.

Shocks shouldnt really be an issue as i was looking at Tein Coilies - but are the engines and turbos and bulletproof?

I wish i didnt have to worry about fuel But unfortunatly, i do - but luckily i only do around 5k a year so it shouldnt be too bad but with rent/bills etc. and the current economic downturn, need to keep a close eye on funds

So what are they like? How much would i get on a "normal" (granny) drive from £10?

Both my cars should be up for sale at the end of this week allowing funds for a Scoob - but could really do with petrol figures!

Just seen a JDM Spec though - Drooling all over my laptop :P

Ahh go on MPG mine a classic v6 sti ra can get 25-28mpg motorway scraping it town and city driving 18-22 then driving it on 14-18mpg but you only need to worry about the top figures you seem a sensible driver

Come on - there must be someone as tight as me on funds!

According to parkers:
WRX = 30MPG
WRX STI = 25MPG
WRX STI PPP = 23MPG

Is that about right? :S

I've just got back from a run down through france and averaged 25mpg . That's with the air con on full time , luggage and not hanging about so not too bad considering what the car will do performance wise . JDM STI 04

ive got a wrx sti ppp and to be honest mate my 94 wrx import wasnt much better. mpg i dont no but from a full tank 50 quid ish i get around 160miles but that is putting the hammer down now n then. get the sti mate you will love the power

So the subaru has a 60L tank, i can see around 330+ if i drive normally - thats not bad.

Im pretty certain whats next on the cards for me

as said if your worried abotu fuel then don't bother iwth a scoob, there very thirsty indeed, then if you get it mapped etc then you can forget mpg

Mines 90% Motorway miles so hopefully, i should be ok. Petrol isnt a major issue but just need to control my outgoings as things are tight atm.

And as for mods, just going for breather mods (exhaust, filter) and poss coilovers, arbs etc. I dont want to make it stupidly fast as the 212bhp Type R is my fastest car to date and jumping into a 4 Wheel Drive 300bhp Monster - I'll have a lot to learn!

I should be okay as long as i get 250 from 60L (as thats half what i get from the A3!) But any lower - not so sure.... :S Te car mainly just goes up and dwn the M62 (Manchester to Liverpool and back) once a week and then weekend drives but thats about it..

My friend's friend has a 2002 WRX STi Bug Eye and he's got a few trips he needs to make the weekend after next. Im not insured to drive it but he did say i can jump in with him and see how she is on fuel...just hope its not as bad as some of you guys say it is as i really want one

My uncles Evo VIII was thirsty (it did 18mpg on a normal drive), just hope the Scoobys not as bad
