Question smell of hot rubber

Hey all

iv had my 97 imppreza hatch wrx IP for about 2 weeks now, its restricted and only done about 53K, so i know its never been reemed at top end, unless the guy was reeming it in low gear. The problem im having is that after a good ride i can smell rubber when i get out the car (NO ITS NOT THE WHEELS ) the car does not over heat, it gets warmed up and cooled down. and drives like a dream. use only the best food for it.

can someone tell thru there expericance if this is just the rubber hoses, and would you recomend changing the hoses to silocon?

many thanks

First thing to ask is... what age and condition are your tyres? Wheels size etc

Second ... have you checked the temperature of your tyres after a run? side walls

Can you locate the rubber smell under the bonnet? or is it coming in through your air vents?

GET IT CHECKED BY GARAGE or the bills may be big, or worse a tyre may pop! and that's interesting in a not very funny way Silicone hoses are a good investment and look well smart!

On a less serious note... 'Smell of burning rubber' use more foreplay before revving hard... or plenty of KY jelly if you have piston scrape... but lay off the slick 50, it burns your eye and may causes ring damage

Let us know what the source of the problem is when sorted please

I'am the only mature person never mind them Your sure its not like burning oil smell after a hard drive might be oil dripping onto hot exhaust due to worn rubber gasket on rocket cover drivers side fairly normal in these engines
