Unwanted second hand Scoob

Hi All,
I'm always being asked about new/used car prices, spares prices etc in Japan. Just been by my local used car lot to see what was in and spied a car that, to my knowledge, has been there since December. It is a 2000 WRX STi with plenty spent on mods, it rides on HKS coil-overs, has carbon fibre wing mirrors, boost gauge and a huge rear spoiler. Full stainless Steel exhaust. It is immaculate outside, if a little dirty as it's been un-loved for so long, and also immaculate inside. It has done 41,800 miles and is for sale at £8,400. Would it have hung around so long at that price in the UK  Would it :?: I don't know :!: |
Would have been snapped up within minutes at that price  Nice one cool... Ever thought about do an import racket :D
Cheers m8 |

I'm sure there are people making BIG money on imports.
BTW, for the hairy chested amongst us, how about this for a bargain :!: Toyota Supra, again in very fine fettle, with just 40,000 miles. Got to be a snatch at £4,400 if you like that sort of thing  Not my kind of car but is a lot of car for that kind of money  Sorry about the front shot, not in focus. Haven't got the hang of this camera yet  |

How do you resist all these cars at such low prices. I change cars every year but if I lived out your way it would be every 3 months.
|
Newie, some of the things they do to cars here is a crime
Bob, went to a place in Sendai a few weeks ago and I'd have gladly bought every car they had. I was like a kid in a sweet shop  The place was packed with Scoobs, EVO's, Skyliners, RX7 and 8's etc. All at silly money and all A1 condition with very low mileage, when I say low I mean none with more than 10,000 miles  I was like, Oh I want that one, No I want that one, Oh I want them all :!: :!: |
In Japan, you'd first need to have that parking space...then there's the inspections (especially that nasty one for 2-year old cars).
And the Japan models might want octane that might be hard to find elsewhere (I used to be able to get 100 Octane Unleaded near an airport - but the station closed (might need to get it on the airfield ?). My Dad lived in Shibuya for 8 years, long enough to actually get his own parking space...I went nuts in Aki Habara buying stereo gear when I visited. And I also recall what we had to do to a US-Spec car to get it 'street-legal' in Europe. Here in the USA, a person can have one (non-US-spec) import (in a lifetime), and it cannot be resold (except for scrap or perhaps parts). But the stupidity about fuel is enough to make it tough to feed a fussy engine...(many states mandate specific blends of ethanol, etc. Without any regard to what is most easily supplied - there are some 30+ specs for fuel and about 9 refineries large enough to deal with them - so occasionally there are shortages of specific blends despite adaquate oil supplys - politics are so exceedingly dumb sometimes...). Speaking of politics - can one get a (stock) car that produces over 300 Hp in Japan ? T  M |
