PPP Upgrade

Hiya guys,

I am about to buy the PPP chip from someone. I have changed my BB to a prodrive BB but thats it.

Is there anything else I need to do before I change the chip ? I have been told brakes on mine should be OK.

What about the intercooler hose ? I have tried to find another but cant :/ Is there a specific make/model I need to be looking at ?

Thanks
Stu

how much is the ppp ecu costing you :?: do you still have the down pipe cat in place :?:

Nelson 06 Jul 2004 07:50 AM

OK Stu for the PPP you will need the following:

1) Uprated SS Back Box
2) Uprated Intercooler pipework
3) Uprated ppp ECU
4) Decat Centre Section

1) You have this - SORTED
2) You are after the hose that connects the i/c to the turbo - Samco is your best option here, but be warned you will need to buy the whole Turbo hose set circa 90
3) Depending on your year of car will depend on what ppp ECU will slot straight in i.e if you have a MY99 Scooby then you will need the MY99/00 ppp ECU.
4) Just buy yourself a Decat centre pipe (available from most Subaru performance places). Resonated if you don't want loads of extra sound or non-res if you want noise ;)

With all this in place you should then have the PPP upgrade ;)

You can get a Samco intercooler hose and you will need to change the restricter in the pipe to the boost solinoid thingy....
I know not very technical but I am sure someone will clarify.....

You need the right restrictor or you may/will get overboost

THERE YOU GO NELSON TO THE RESCUE...

PeterUK300 06 Jul 2004 07:56 AM

Nelson
Will he not need to change the restrictor :?:

Nelson 06 Jul 2004 07:57 AM

The restrictor I believe does have to be slightly bigger - however it depends on whether Spooks want to go for a Full Decat (recommended btw) and then he will need to drill it out to 1.3mm. :)

Sp00ky 06 Jul 2004 10:41 AM

Gonna cost me 400 for chip. (fitted)

Whats all this drilling something out malarky Nelson :o

/me scratches head

Nelson 06 Jul 2004 12:05 PM

There is a restrictor that resides in the pipework between your turbo and wastegate actuator. Basically the PPP cars have a slightly larger diameter bleed hole in the restrictor over the standard UK Turbo restrictor. Maybe Poxy can jump in here cos he drilled mine out for me, can you remember what the size was before you drilled it Poxy ?? Basically Stu mine and Poxys had to be drilled out even more cos we are running with full Decats and without the bigger hole we suffer with overboosting, hesitation etc. basically the car runs like a bag of shite :( Anyway not to confuse you we need to ascertain what the size of the restrictor needs to be for the standard PPP setup.

This might help ya Stu to see what it is I'm talking about

Standard 1.1mm we needed to drill ours to1.3 to stop the overboosting (with a full decat)

Right I think I see what thats about..:P

I wasnt going to remove the main cat on the downpipe, just the centre section really, so will I still need to do all this ? I just didnt want to have to mess about with the car to get it through its mot.

GF is being a right royal pain in the ar5e about it too :( She says are there not more imortant things to waste (Yes u heard it right.....waste) your money on. I said yeah sure like you (didnt go down well). I told her not to try and come between me and Scoob...hehe.

If I replace the centre section will it still pass its MOT ?

Thanks for your help guys.

Stu

i must be lucky, the wife doesn't say anything about the car. she's cool about it, she understands that i have to have my toys  i'll never grow up :D

Sp00ky 07 Jul 2004 09:19 AM

Check this out.

Just called direct line.

To change the exaust cost me 100 a year more

To chip it costs 0, nothing, zilch, nada, zip :o Can u believe it ?

I am shocked, so all ahead on the chips :D

Stu - first off buy your missus a bunch of flowers and some chocolates mate ;)

second - yes the downpipe cat will still allow the car to pass the MOT its the main cat on your exhaust system and the one that make the most difference to your performance. The centre cat can be removed and you should be fine for MOT time :) The restrictor should be ok - I wil check though that the restrictor is any different in size from a PPP car than a standard UK Turbo (I'll get abck to you on this one cos I thought that the standard UK turbo has a 1.1mm and the ppp has a 1.2mm restrictor). Leave this with me tho' mate and I'll get back to you ;) Other than the restrictor its just the time it takes to fit all the pipework (intercooler, exhaust and then the ECU). This PPP is supposed to give an extra 20BHP/20lb/ft torque ;)

Sp00ky 07 Jul 2004 10:37 AM

lol nah, she needs to get in touch with the real world and come to terms with the fact shes now my other woman ;)

Nelson, did u see what direct line said to me in that other post ? :o can you belive they charge me 100 for 3bhp and nothing for PPP ECU upgrade ?

Nelson 07 Jul 2004 11:55 AM

Yes very interesting mate ;) I was gonna say wtf when i read the Zorst change but then read Nowt additional for ECU - Bargain mate - Job DOne !!
