Running costs? - is it true....

Hi Everyone,
I am new to this forum so thanks for all the welcomes I have had.
I am interested in purchasing an 07 plate Scooby Impreza 2.5 WRX with PPP. I have seen it and driven it and it was awesome!..
I am interested in buying the car but said to the sales guy that I need to go away and think and research the running costs of running such a car. I have heard that they are expensive to run and maintain ? - is that true?. I am not the type to boot the car and will drive it back and forth from work mainly..
Are the service costs high on this car? - I was told because it was a rally car it needed frequent services, around 6k - is that true? - the dealer told me every 12k.. I have had a look at insurance and this is coming out at around 650 a yr - but I have just emailed the Company everyone on this forums mentions - so am waiting to hear back from him. Does anyone know what the tax costs on this motor a yr also?
Any advice/help greatly appreciated.
Thanks, ScrappyDooDoo

Mpg depends on how you drive mine works out about 20ish (heavy footed) Parts aint much different from any other performance car, easy to get. road tax is 185 a year. I have learnt that the more you look after the car the more it looks after you

Re: Running costs? - is it true....

high running costs of a scoob is a big myth bud, only gets huge if you deciced to hone the engine out with a stroker, stick on a bigger turbo, huge front mount intercooler, fuel rails, anti lagg, launch control, bigger injecters, better brakes to haul the beast up on a sixpence, uprated suspension to keep the bleeding thing on the road...lol

thats when it starts to get high in the running costs department..

As what Ian said mpg depends on how you drive it, can scrap round 24-25mpg taking it handy in my sti v6 ra and when I want to put foot down round the 18mpg maybe a little less but you expect it with the power really you getting, as for servicing it like any other car but you change the gearbox oil and diff oil at the recommended intervals from the chart Pete posted
